Publisher's summary

Working for the police as a psychic consultant, finding missing people and things, can get a little crazy sometimes. I thought dealing with my Aunt Rita's ghosts, my wacky family, and enjoying my new relationship with hunky Detective Nick Cavanaugh would be my routine for a while. Boy was I wrong!

A serial killer is in town and he knows my name!

Just when I thought things were getting back to normal, well, normal for me, I start hearing "The Song." Who knew that old song my parents play at parties would be the number one favorite song of a serial killer? My boss, Captain Johnson, is having a fit about the FBI taking over and involving me in the case, when he clearly wants me far away from this killer. The FBI does not seem surprised by my abilities. After all, they brought in three psychics of their own. None of them, however, has been able to catch this killer. The tables are turned when the killer sends a video with photos of me and the rest of the team. The hunted is now the hunter and without a picture of this killer, I have no weapon.

The FBI expects me to work miracles; let's hope I can pull one off.

Another great book! I love the Andromeda Spencer Series!

If you have not read the first book you should start there. It's such an awesome series you don't want to miss it. Although, the Author does a good job with a short recap in the first chapter.

The author did it again! It was so good I could not put it down. I love her stories. It is suspenseful, funny, and unpredictable.

So glad to see Andromeda and detective Cavanaugh's relationship is growing. With a serial killer in the loose, Nick gets very protective of Rommy. The Maestro of Fear is terrorizing the FBI and Rommy with some unwanted recordings & "Gifts"!

The narrator did a great job bringing the story to life. The story is told in Andromeda's POV. It wraps up nicely with no cliff hangers! I'm already looking forward to the next book!

An enjoyable Audible book!

Some of the quirky characters return in Book two of the Andromeda Spencer series. There are also a few new additions, who are just as entertaining. The Maestro of Fear lurks and Rommy soon discovers she is being stalked. Will she survive the next case with the help of hunky detective Cavanaugh? I was just as entertained by this audiobook as I was with the first.

I tried to like it, but...

I normally love books featuring psychics, empaths, people who see ghosts, etc. I wanted to love Melody of Murder too. I tried to love it. Really, I did – but it just wasn’t happening. I did finish listening to the book, but it was a struggle. The more I listened, the more I developed a strong dislike for the main character, Andromeda. Although I did make myself finish it, by half-way through, I no longer cared about the outcome of the story.

Andromeda is a twenty-something person who can locate missing people and things, and she can also see and talk to ghosts. Usually, in books like this, that type of character has a certain maturity and wisdom about them, brought on no doubt, but having to deal with their gift on a daily basis. They may find it stressful and exhausting, but they are usually willing to use their gift to help people, and are usually grateful that something good can come out of their ability. If this is the way she meant to portray Andromeda, I’m afraid author Theresa Parker did not succeed. Yes, in a way Andromeda does use her gift to help people – but only for a price – and she whines about it in the process. She comes across as self-centered and shallow, and it is pretty clear early on that the only reason she helps the police department with her ability is so she can earn a steady paycheck, and have ready access to her boyfriend so she can get him into bed as often as possible. The narcoleptic cat is a much more likeable character. The little boy who sees dead people in the well-known movie has more maturity and class than Andromeda does.

Narrator Johanna Fairview’s portrayal of Andromeda compounded this impression. I kept thinking “Valley Girl” as I listened. I wonder if my impression of Andromeda would be less negative if I’d read the book instead of listening to it. The premise of the storyline was good, but the characters were not likeable – at least to me.

This is a fun detective story. I loved the wry humor and sweet romance that is included. I see this is book 2 in the series, I want to go back and listen to the 1st. Fantastic to discover an author I hadn't yet discovered

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed.

OK

Psychic abilities didn’t help much here, other than the ghosts saving the day. OK I guess.

A paranormal fantasy?

This is a fantasy in a paranormal setting - at least that's what I got out of it. The two genres can work sometimes, but I don't think it works here. The story is well-written and contains a lot of good elements, but sometimes I felt that it was a children's book, which I did not expect this one to be.

I found the characters and especially the main character Andromeda very immature. She's in her early twenty's so I would expect a more strong heroine, but I didn't feel that either. Her parents and grandmother also has very strong roles in this story and they are also acting like kids with their magic, witchcraft and astrology.

Okay, well - the story is defenitely aimed for an audience. It also has a strong plot. However, it wasn't aimed for people like me. I'm sure teens and young adults will enjoy this series and will think it is a funny and thrilling mystery.

Narrator Johanna Fairview did a very fine job and portrayed the characters very well. She is well suited for a funny book and sings very well with both male and female voices. Her singing and her dialougue made me laugh out load sometimes. Wonderful. I'll defenitely check out this narrator again.

A pleasure to listen to

Although this story has the formula down of the main character heading into a serious relationship with her boyfriend, who is on the police force, it is different enough in the "filler" to easily hold my attention. I did not listen to the first book but it was no big deal. The author did a great job of filling in the pertinent info without it seeming forced. The mystery was really interesting with the reveal being a surprise. I definitely would read more by this author.
The performance of the narrator was quite good as well. Some of the supporting characters had not so great voices but overall it was very professional.

MELODY OF MURDER...WOW!

I can't believe this was book 2. I didn't read or listen to book 1 and yet I still loved this book and the characters. To hear a song in your dreams and know its connected to murders... I got chills writing that. This book is great, not only is it a murder mystery, but fun and funny too! I love all the live and dead characters. Johanna Fairview did a awesome job bringing both the dead and alive characters to life. This was one of those audiobooks that I couldn't stop listening to and found myself laughing out loud many times. I can usually figure out the who done it right away but not this one. I was surprised all the way up until the end.

A pleasure!

Any additional comments?

The cover art for this audiobook belies the light and playful nature of the actual story. You can tell from the very first paragraph that even though this is a mystery, that it will be more fun and amiable than a hard core thriller.

The narration was excellent, the main characters were likeable, the supporting cast was amusing (especially Nana) and when you throw in a pair of ghosts, you have an afternoon listen that leaves you with a smile.
