Publisher's Summary

They call me the sugar whisperer.

Anything your tongue desires, I can bake it. Scones? Child's play. Cupcakes? I'll frost them so good you won't know what hit you. Donuts? Please!

You're talking to a master baker.

But there's one egg I've never been able to crack.

My best friend.

Correction: my former best friend.

She's the apple in my pie. The whip in my cream. The lemon in my meringue. The wish in my bone. She's the one who got away.

After ten years in the military, she's back. She's bruised and battered by life, but she's back. Except, she's not my second chance. She's gone to the dark side. Running a rival bakery in a town not big enough for two.

So, now I have to decide - which do I want more?

My bakery?

Or the woman I never should've let go in the first place?

Master Baker is a deliciously fun friends-to-enemies-to-lovers romantic comedy featuring a smooth-talking baker, the one who got away, and a goat with more matchmaking tendencies than a nosy old grandpa. It stands alone with no cheating or cliff-hangers.

talk dirty to your batter

While this isn't my top favorite by Pippa Grant, I loved it none the less! loved the dirty talk....even if it was to the batter/cookie dough. Sue was awesome and I love the crazy animals/pets in her books. definitely recommend this book for an easy read.

Holy brownie batter sexy times!

I will never bake again without listening to Grady and Annika talk dirty to ingredients and each other. Holy brownie batter sexy times! Master Baker is all the things!! It's very sweet, often hilarious, and super hot!

Narration is expertly done by Jason and Virginia, two of my auto-buy favorites. Well worth the credit!

Ronchy hallmark movie

So, my girlfriend and I thought it’d be fun to read a romance novel together for Valentine’s Day and since I’m a baker we thought this would be a fun title to read together. She actually read the book book while I read the audible. I think I had the easy time with it since I could passively muscle though the worst parts while she actively had to suffer through them.

So I’ll start with the good. I finished ... there’s not much true good with it. Thought the goat was humous and the blind mother made me chuckle as how dumb it was.

Now onto the blah and bad.

The performance isn’t bad per-say it’s just not good. So it has two readers one for the male master baker and one for the hopeless girl characters. Honestly my biggest issue with the gravelly male voice is that he sounds like he’s on vacation in Frank Miller’s Sin City and putting on the deepest voice he can to not get beat up when he goes outside to zape, but in reality has a normal soft man voice. The woman reader sounds fine and does a good emotional job for such a cliche book. Ironically and probably the only saving grace for the master baker reader is that he sounds ok during the sex scenes and the talking dirty to baked goods part.

The problem with the book is I don’t understand anyone motivations or why they are in conflict. I grew up in a town that hated the town I went to school in but no one ever said any thing nasty to anyone dating some on in that town. Not at all. Worst they comment on how much I had to drive. Secondly the main girl can’t bake so how the hell is she winning contest. Cause it’s annoying as f***.

Also the sex scene which are some of the best parts of the book stop completely after they start dating like the author doesn’t actually know what sex is like with a regular partner. Cause it’s the one good part and after half the book just expect to groan at how bad it is.

Now the best part of the book is actually the worst part about the book. Every time the blind mother got brought up I laughed at how dumb it was and that’s a sign of a bad book. I should have feels swoon for these characters to get together and not be annoyed at them for not getting past their non issues and dating.

Now as a baker I started googling the different donuts they make to see what food blog was used and mostly none or so not what the author described. All I can say is they know nothing about baking nor have they ever stepped foot into an actual baker. She called the master bakers lower region a cannoli... which often is a deep fried tube filled with cream which makes sense. But they are also very small, fragile, and thin. Not a sexy thing to compare my genitals to. She should have used classic long john and even an eclair would have been better. Also she uses a ripe kiwi for describe one of the females genitals. So the author might not know what either looks or feels like. Emotionally or physically.

Finally, we had fun making fun of this book and I think if we could have stopped reading it without the other being annoyed my girlfriend would have dropped out after the first few chapters. But we finished made fun of it endlessly and regretted reading. So in someways that’s a win I guess.

Brilliant fun

I loved this book when I first read it, love it even more in this version. The pirates, the parrots, the Berger twins and the situations they're dealing with .

The narrators do a fantastic job.

Okay

This is one of those audiobooks where the narrators are better than the story! Sweet story but quite frankly boring, absolutely no plot and to be honest it just went on and on and on. Sweet but I could’ve done without it.

Amazing read!!

I absolutely loved the shit out of this book!! It was the cheesiest, most adorable book ever! This storyline is about two best friends that never got the guts to say they loved each other until one was on their way out of town. When she came back it was on rocky ground and for different reasons than love. This book has also gotten me into some more books by Pippa Grant that I will be reading. I would definitely recommend this book, it is one that will not be regretted. I loved this book!!

3 1/2 - 4 stars for the story

Master Baker is a light-hearted, second chance romance with a large dose of small town rivalry added to the mix for some extra fun. The small town rivalry between Sarcasm and Shipwreck is absolutely OTT, verging on a little ridiculous at times, but at all times it makes for fun listening.

I prefer to listen to this authors books, I've read a couple and I find the humour just works so much better when I'm listening to the stories (for me the humour falls flat in ebook format)......bonus - she has some of my favourite narrators performing her works which is also a big plus.
