“If you love Elin Hilderbrand and The Great Gatsby, Moore’s confection of a novel, set on Block Island, is a satisfying treat.” —The New York Times

From national bestselling author Meg Mitchell Moore comes a sparkling, escapist novel following a young woman entwined in the opulent lives of her neighbors, set against a backdrop of scandal, secrets, and a not-so-subtle love triangle, perfect for fans of The Wedding People and Pineapple Street.

It’s the beginning of the summer, and Nicola Carr has just arrived on Block Island, RI, eager for a fresh start and some R&R. But her plans for a tranquil summer are quickly derailed when she meets the neighbor who owns the mansion next door, Juliana George, an enigmatic entrepreneur with a past shrouded in mystery.

Juliana, CEO and founder of a hot fashion-tech company, is spending the summer on Block Island preparing for a major IPO. But she’s chasing her dreams in more ways than one. This summer she hopes to rekindle a flame with a man from her past—a man who has a surprising connection to her neighbor Nicola.

Taylor Buchanan, the wife of Nicola’s cousin, is second-in-command of a real estate empire. Her life is exactly the way she planned it, and there’s nothing she’ll let get in her way of Having It All. But when everything suddenly verges on the edge of collapse, she has no choice but to take matters into her own hands.

As Nicola, Juliana, and Taylor’s summers unfold, the three women are set on a collision course that leads to inevitable self-discovery, unforgivable betrayal, an unavoidable love triangle—and, most unexpectedly, a dead body.

Critic reviews

“If you’re looking for THE beach book of summer, here it is: Mansion Beach by Meg Mitchell Moore. It’s an engrossing, incredibly clever modern retelling of The Great Gatsby set on Block Island. Meg writes my favorite beach reads, and this is her best yet.” —Elin Hilderbrand

The reader was good but all her men sounded the same except for the elderly guy. The story was very cliche and silly.

Cliche and predictable

I liked the various points of view and voices used to tell this story. Also, I like that the story was told in a non-linear way. There were plenty of surprises along the way to keep my interest!

Intriguing Storyline

I loved how the author brought Gatsby into the modern world keeping all of the pieces that withstand time, but modernizing the characters to show that the story is just as relevant today.

Loved the new twist on Gatsby

This book had a lot of parallels to The Great Gatsby. It held my attention. It had a dishy, juicy quality, but also some sadness.

Gatsby in Block Island

Unfinished, weird relationship with George. Niece could have been expanded on. Nicola never got settled. Who was Juliana’s husband. Did girl die or was she hit by boat.

Unfinished,

I finished this book because when I start a book, I finish it but it was honestly so difficult to hang in with this story. The story itself was dumb and lack luster but the details and metaphors were so excessive that it was cringe worthy. Reminds me of that saying….if I ask you the time, you don’t need to build me a clock! In other words, get to the point! I honestly feel like this lack luster story could have been told in 3-4 chapters without the excessive rambling.

Painful
