In Man of Constant Sorrow, Grammy® Award winner Ralph Stanley opens up about his expansive career as an old-time musician. Stanley grew up in the Virginia mountains and first learned music from his banjo-playing mother. He interrupted his musical career to farm for a short time, but soon returned to music with his brother Carter. Later in his career, Stanley gained popularity after being featured in the hit motion picture soundtrack for O Brother, Where Art Thou?

I loved listening to Man of Constant Sorrow, words cannot explain the feeling I have for Dr. Ralph Stanley's life.

Love it!

If you’re interested in the music that surrounds Ralph and his POV of living as a traveling musician and building a legacy you’ll love it. Would have liked listen to Dr Ralph tell his story in his unique voice, but Ed Sala does a fantastic job.

Great listen

This book wasn’t at all what I expected. But once I settled into it, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was more like ramblings of your grandfather rather than a “life and times” book, but the style worked perfectly with the telling of his life. I wish there had been some audio of Ralph Stanley himself singing. That would have been 5 stars!

Ralph Stanley has stood the test of time

This book is a must have for any Stanley fan or folk musician that wants to kniw where their music came from. After listening to this I am now planning a trip to the Clinch Mountains to see things for myself.

Ralph Stanley as a vocalist is an international treasure. The performer here is not. For gods sake stop the singing.

This is an important contribution to the historical preservation of a music where posterity was trumped by survival. Anyone interested in the history of bluegrass should add this to their library

Stop the singing. Please.
