Publisher's summary

Discover the "important and inspiring" (Miranda Lambert) and never-before-told complete story of the remarkable relationship between country music icons Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn.

Loretta Lynn and the late Patsy Cline are legends - country icons and sisters of the heart. For the first time ever, Loretta tells their story: a celebration of their music and their relationship up until Patsy's tragic and untimely death.

Full of laughter and tears, this eye-opening, heartwarming memoir paints a picture of two stubborn, spirited country gals who'd be damned if they'd let men or convention tell them how to be. Set in the heady streets of the 1960s South, this nostalgia ride shows how Nashville blossomed into the city of music it is today. Tender and fierce, Me & Patsy Kickin' Up Dust is an up-close-and-personal portrait of a friendship that defined a generation and changed country music indelibly - and a meditation on love, loss, and legacy.

Critic reviews

"Loretta and Patsy had a bond that set the standard for ladies in music today. They taught us to support each other and to life each other up. I have been in a band with two other women (Pistol Annies) for almost a decade, so I understand that sisterhood more than ever. It's important and inspiring." (Miranda Lambert)

"Even if Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn weren't two of the most influential artists in country music, this story about the bond between them as they rose to the top of their fields would be a touching meditation on friendship, loyalty, and loss. But playing out against the rise of Nashville and the price of fame, it becomes something even more absorbing." (Town & Country)

"Patsy and Loretta are two women who can teach us so much about life, especially how to stand up for yourself and how to deal with being a woman in the world of Country Music today because they had to do it in THEIR day. The biggest difference is, these days, we have huge numbers to face that situation together. They didn't have that security. They fought for it. They came together when they both needed a friend most, and reading this book makes you want to have that same bond with a friend. I think they would encourage you, the reader, to find that special friend in your life. Priceless." (Reba McEntire)

Awesome!

Patsy Lynn does an awesome job of narration, so much that I forgot it was not a young Loretta Lynn herself. Great memories and stories of a beloved friendship to rival the ages. I loved it!

A true friendship story.

I cried, laughed and hurt right with them. Hill girls have a way of knowing things, and this book is gold.

Amazing book

I laughed and I cried. Amazing book. I listen to Patsy’s and Loretta’s music almost everyday and my grandma loved their music as well so this made me feel close to her and to Patsy and Loretta as well.

Wonderfully done and filled with great memories!

Me & Patsy Kickin' Up Dust is written by the talented and wonderful Loretta Lynn and narrated by her daughter Patsy Lynn Russell with a special forward by the wonderful Dolly Parton. This book is Loretta's story, memories, and history with her dear friend, the beautiful and talented Patsy Cline. This book starts in Butcher Holler when Loretta meets her husband Doo and also covers the time from when Loretta and Patsy meet in the hospital after Patsy's car accident and continues through the years all the way until Patsy's untimely death in the plane crash that killed her and a few other of her travel companions. This book was great and if you have watched Coal Miner's Daughter quite a bit of this book will make some sense of some of the movie scenes you see. Some of the movie was different than what Loretta herself tells, but it was a fantastic read filled with laughter and tears, wisdom and beautiful friendships, hardships and strength found, and most importantly love that lasts through time.

This book covers parts of Loretta's life and journey through her musical journey, including some of her time at the Grand Ole Opry, and is definitely a must read if you love the classic country scene and you are a fan of Loretta Lynn and Patsy Cline. The friendship betwen these two fantastic women is amazing. I really enjoyed this book written by and about some of my favorite women in country, but I have to also say that Loretta's daughter Patsy Lynn Russell does a fantastic job narrating her mothers story.
