They were the Savages. Raiders from our distant past. Elites who left Earth to create tailor-made utopias aboard the massive lighthuggers that crawled through the darkness between the stars. But the people they left behind on a dying planet didn't perish in the dystopian nightmare the Savages had themselves created: they thrived, discovering faster-than-light technology and using it to colonize the galaxy ahead of the Savages, forming fantastic new civilizations that surpassed the wildest dreams of Old Earth.

My name is Kazimir Wolfe. People call me "Kaz", except they don’t. I never use my real name; it’s too dangerous, for me and for anyone I meet. I’m on the run from the law, who think I killed my aunt, and from whoever did kill her, because they want to finish the job. So, I move around a lot, working construction or whatever job I can find. We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Publisher's summary
Leave no man behind.
On Detron, a simmering protest boils over and turns deadly when militants hiding among the demonstrators deliberately shoot down a group of legionnaires, executing one survivor and taking two for ransom. The only Republic asset the captured leejes can rely on is a lone marine sniper who defies orders in a desperate attempt to save them.
But a troubled sea of hostile riots, looting, and murder is too much for anyone to navigate safely.
Except Tyrus Rechs. Following a trail that links the riots and deaths to a demagogue known in the underground as Madame Guillotine, the bounty hunter must fight his way above, beneath, and through the sweltering city to bring the prisoners back home…and make those responsible pay.
Join the adventure as Tyrus Rechs stops at nothing to take down a nefarious conspiracy before it has a chance to take root in the very Republic that wants him dead.

Performance, story, perfect. Audio, wtf.
I love everything about the story and performance and won't right a huge blah blah about that. But what's with the intermediate audio volume drop. Why. What editor didn't catch that. I've downloaded and listened to it on 3 separate phones along with 5 separate Bluetooth devices. Then re-downloaded it on each to try again. Really?

Okay but....
I generally like Anspach and Cole along with the Galaxy’s Edge universe they’ve created. However, I wish they’d lay off the overly long, introspective self analysis each character seems to engage in. A little for character development is good but we don’t need half a chapter of self indulgent meandering of thoughts when a paragraph will do.

A little heavy handed and repetitious
Let me start by saying I really like this universe, and Rex is one of my favorite characters in it. It's been clear from the start what the author's political views are. We agree and disagree on different issues which is just fine with me. I was also pumped that this one was a little longer than some of the others, but found that most of that extra time was spent listening to the same observations and internal monologues over and over. It's definitely still worth listening to, it just gets a little tedious at times.

Bad audio or disinterested narrator?
I love the series and I’m a Ray Porter fan, but I feel like this performance wasn’t his best. At times when you should feel excitement the performance is bland and I’d doze off or day dream then rewind to see what I’d missed. After about the 8th time I stopped rewinding and just kept going.
Also the audio fades in and out. I deleted the copy of it on my phone, downloaded it on a different device and still had the same issues. Tried different headphones or none at all, same issues.

Wait.... what happened here?
This book really should have been a short story. There is so much one sided socio-political name calling going on in this book that just didn't need to be there or accomplish anything. It doesn't really advance TR's story line all that much. I wish I knew that because I would have skipped this book. I really liked all the other ones I've read. Instead of being "Intelligent Grunts in Space with a Star Wars and Sci-Fi Homage sub-theme" this book devolves into "American Conservative Gamer writing about Grunts in Space from a disaffected viewpoint, parodying Star Wars for comic relief." (I don't know if the writer(s) is military or not, I am describing how the book sounds to me.) Soci-Pro? All the stoner student protesters (and there is a protester rock concert) turn out to be willing to go along with beheadings of military personnel? OK, the writers don't much like college student protestors, but what about the Donkeys? Seriously, there are some no redeeming value aliens to behead stuff already crated in all the back story. Drill instructors in advanced combat training refer to the candidates as "wannabe's?" That word got some serious use in a couple chapters. This book has a bunch of axes to grind and points to make that hurt the story and don't actually accomplish anything. The rescue part of the story could have been so interesting in the world of these stories. But it just becomes humans and Star Wars Bots and bitter resentment that makes more sense in a story from the 70's. Contractual obligations? No editor because the first two were GOOD? We are expected to Embrace the Suck?

Thinly disguised rant
This book is a thinly disguised political rant. The author has created a book as a vehicle to complain about specific contemporary politics. If you like authoritarian conservatism this is the right book for you! Buy it and enjoy it.
This author writes well about soldiers and their commitment and brotherhood but this anger looses the plot.

Overly Political (Again)
I'm a massive GE fan, but this book was a slog. From the get go, it's trying to push political agendas that, frankly, feel out of place within the the Contracts and Terminations storyline and feel like a ham fisted attempt at commenting on the current political landscape in the United States.
It had its good parts, it really did, but it definitely one of the weaker franchise entries.

Another great story...
I just love how the authors mash very current politics and the most stupid political actors and military sci-fi together. Unfortunately, we live in a period without the great T-Rex to clean up the mess we have to dwell in. Where is a hero when you need one?
Ray Porter is next to RC Bray the finest narrator and shows an incredible talent to bring the characters to life. Awesome. I hope this series continues for years to come!

I love the GE books and I enjoyed Rechs character in those books (brief as it was ) but that was with RC Bray narrating and I have been greatly disappointed by Ray Porters narration, I have purchased all 3 Rechs standalone books on Audible and then had to get the kindle version because I can’t get past the first few chapters

They just keep getting better!
Certainly the best book of the series so far.
While book 2 was a little disappointing compared to the first one (Requiem For Medusa) , this takes the story up another level.
I won't bore you with details, I will just say - get it!
A special mention to Ray Porter also. Picking up after RC Bray (who did the Galay's Edge series) was a thankless task but he has brought his own style to the narration and really impressed me. Well done.

what a garbage
massive amount of authors' political opinions aimed against popular movements. inconsistent story, e.g. failed economy of the planet and yet the protesters would go back to their highly paid job. authors are trying to forcefully combine a narrative of a terrorist organizations and just a normal protest into a unreal result of students or hipsters killing military personnel and burning their bodies.

A fitting end to the 3 book series
as with the previous 2 books. Well paced, good characters but not too much depth but enough of a hint that you want to know more about them.
I'll be buying the next series of books that come out.

Urgh
The political messaging in this one is rough.
I love GE and usually dont mind its obvious political leanings, and often agree with it.
But this, oh man. Its an embarrassingly simplic world view that is rammed down your throat.
An almost child like projection of real world politics, contradictory and muddled thinking with zero self awareness.
All hail proto savage trump i guess, fml.
Trying to not let this book ruin GE for me like Disney ruined Star Wars. This is the Last Jedi of GE books, in the opposite direction but just as bad.

Can't wait for more!!!
I've loved all the galaxy's edge audio books and was really excited to see some dedicated to Rex. obviously R C Bray is amazing so I was nervous that anyone else wouldn't bring the same feel but Ray Porter is amazing as Rex and is now one of my favourite narrator's. I highly recommend all 3 of these books and look forward to more

a lot better than books 1 and 2
great story with this book! black hawk done type stuff and really brings Rex out in the best way!
loved the baulder character and thought is was great twist and enhanced that leg of the story.
Ray Porter did a great job even though he gets a bit of bassing taking over from RC BRay only issue i have is the audio skips and i kept having to rewind. that needs sorted out!
keep them coming like this please!

Great as always.
Fantastic bit of si fi. It almost seems like it was written in 2020. The rioters full of , as the kgb used to call them " useful idiot's " . Today Revolutionaries tomorrow's dictators take advantage of a protest to start a war. But theres 3 things in there way a hull buster, a leige and a old bounty hunter.
