Publisher's summary

William Collins never wanted to leave the comforts of Lilimar, his home. One day, the plantation would be his, and he'd poured his heart and soul into making it thrive. War breaks out around the world, and it becomes clear that he has to do his part for his country. If he has any hope of living the life he dreamed of, he first has to find peace to do it. So, he enlists as a gentleman spy and throws himself into danger without a second thought.

Victoria Grant is the daughter of a vicar. She has a strong sense of duty and is trained as a nurse. When her country is thrown into war, she steps forward to join other nurses in tending to the wounded. She travels from camp to camp and helps where she is needed. On a train to France, she encounters an American gentleman, and an unlikely friendship forms between them.

The war that brought them together separates them. Years later, their paths cross again, and they have a chance at love once more, but Victoria's fears might keep them apart. They survived a world torn apart by war; only time will tell if they find a love that will flourish....

Okay story and great narration..

This was okay for me. I liked Thomas but Victoria, no so much. She loved him but she, did, then didn't want to have a life with him, because she knew he wanted children and she didn't because she was afraid she might die in childbirth. So, Thomas had to settle for not having kids because of her fear. I read another book with the kind of story-line and I didn't like it until the MC came around and pulled head out of her rear-end. Victoria never did. They managed to find a 1 year old girl to adopt.

Dawn Bower is a hit-and-miss for me and this was a miss.

No sex and no swearing.

As to the narration: Nicola F. Delgado did a fine job. She gave Thomas a very nice voice.

You never know where love will find you!

This WWI based story takes us to a time where life is dangerous. William knows one day he will be running his family plantation, but while there is war, he knows there is something he must do. Enlisting to be a Gentleman spy, he finds himself in France where he meets a nurse, Victoria. She is the daughter of a vicar and travels from camp to camp, and over several years meets William several times, on a train and even tending to his wounds, building a love. But Victoria isn't sure this is what she wants and breaks things off. But is it the end? Little does she know what will happen in the future. A true love never dies, and in some special cases will find a way to keep smoldering til that flame is able to reignite. Brower writes a captivating story of bravery and the devastation of war. The characters to me are very realistic. Victoria is brave and comfortable doing what she knows. When it comes to unknown possibilities, she is not able to come to terms with outcomes, so the obvious response is to stay with what you do know. Human nature, right? But life isn't always that easy. William is quite a man. Fighting for his beliefs with the idea of knowing what he would come home to is high incentive. He is patient and loving. I loved Victoria and William, their journey and their destination. It's a beautiful story

Nicola F Delgado gives a good performance, bringing us to the front lines, She has several voices and accents, all easily distinguishable and enjoyable. Her portrayal is entertaining and a great way to spend an afternoon.

Nice sweet

Nice sweet love story. WWI in France. well written, the characters are well created and you could believe that they lived the time.
The narrator is ok but sometimes sounds like a old lady instead of a young woman.
Overall a nice love story and if you are into that I can recommend this book.
