Publisher's Summary

If Virginia could have chosen to accept or discard all the changes that came her way, she gladly would have let most of them pass right by herself and her family. She loves her life, living on the farm with her beloved Jonathan and their children, not far from her parents and her grandparents. But a change that is tearing at her heart is the gradual but steady physical decline in Grandma Marty and Grandpa Clark. She cannot imagine their familiar farm home without their welcoming smiles and their words of wisdom that arise from decades of life experiences and a solid faith in God.

Their lovely daughter Mindy, who has blessed their home ever since her mother left the tiny child with them, has been encouraged and guided to pray for that mother all these years. Is God answering that prayer, or is the worst nightmare any family could face now upon them?

Virginia is not sure she has the strength or fortitude to truly become like gold refined.

Need more

Loved this series! Wish there were more following up with this one, sad to end it... But happy Janette Oke has plenty more Christ centered family series to get wrapped up in.

Good story, but unhealthy attitudes

In my opinion, this particular book series by Janette Oke portrays some very unhealthy responses to relationships, in the name of Christian virtue. I feel that the way the main character, Virginia, responds to her angry and manipulative friend, Jenny, is not the way God would have us live. There are no healthy boundaries and it is a very dysfunctional relationship. I realize that it is fiction. But as an example to readers of how to live a godly, healthy Christian life, I think it could cause a reader (especially a young person) to think that it is a godly thing to allow one's self to be manipulated and guilted into certain responses. Normally I love Janette Oke's books, but this series frustrated me as I "watched" Virginia make one bad decision after another. I think that the only reason that the story worked out well in the end was because it was fiction.

Like Gold Refined

A WONDERFUL historical novel about family love and acceptance in true Janette Oke style! It is a continuation of Clark and Marty and their extended family.
