Story
The first thing Sophia Amoruso sold online wasn’t fashion - it was a stolen book. She spent her teens hitchhiking, committing petty theft, and dumpster diving. By twenty-two, she had resigned herself to employment, but was still broke, directionless, and working a mediocre day job she’d taken for the health insurance. It was there that Sophia decided to start selling vintage clothes on eBay. Eight years later, she is the founder, CEO, and creative director of Nasty Gal, a $100 million plus online fashion retailer with more than 350 employees.

Great inspiration for ladies in leadership!
This is a wonderful story of a great leader who is a lady. Great life lessons and wonderful tips that can really be applied in your career. I'm in the nuclear power industry which is far outside of the fashion industry, and yet I truly enjoyed listening to Aliza's story. It is one of my favorite books on leadership by a woman. The only area in which I wish Aliza had expanded on is how she dealt with having a family while excelling her career. She did touch on this area slightly, but only slightly towards the end of the book. I would love to read another book by her that would go into those struggles that women face.

Inspiring. Funny. Candid. Real.
This is an incredible read [listen] for anyone just graduating from college or in their first or second year in the workforce. As someone further along, I found myself nodding in agreement as I could identify with almost every scenario. I also got a lot of value from a coaching standpoint. I've always had a somewhat seasoned team, but this is the first year that I had some extremely young talent, and honestly, I've been a bit frustrated. There is so much that you assume they know, you forget just how green they are. Listening to Aliza, I was reminded to guide them not just on the job I want them to do, but on becoming the professional they aspire to be. More importantly, I was reminded just how much of a privilege it is to be able to do so.
