Publisher's summary

This audiobook will take you through the basics of Japanese with Basic Bootcamp, All About, and Pronunciation lessons. The five Basic Bootcamp lessons each center on a practical, real-life conversation. At the beginning of the lesson, we'll introduce the background of the conversation. Then, you'll hear the conversation two times: one time at natural native speed, and one time with English translation. After the conversation, you'll learn carefully selected vocabulary and key grammar concepts. Next, you'll hear the conversation one time at natural native speed. Finally, practice what you have learned with the review track. In the review track, a native speaker will say a word or phrase from the dialogue, wait three seconds, and then give you the English translation. Say the word aloud during the pause. Halfway through the review track, the order will be reversed. The English translation will be provided first, followed by a three-second pause, and then the word or phrase from the dialogue. Repeat the words and phrases you hear in the review track aloud to practice pronunciation and reinforce what you have learned.

,p>In the 15 All About lessons, you’ll learn all about Japanese and Japan. Our native teachers and language experts will explain everything you need to know to get started in Japanese, including how to understand the writing system, grammar, pronunciation, cultural background, tradition, society, and more - all in a fun and educational format! The five Pronunciation lessons take you step-by-step through the most basic skill in any language: how to pronounce words and sentences like a native speaker. You’ll go from basic concepts to advanced tips and will soon sound like you’ve been speaking Japanese your entire life.

It did what i needed it to

My home language is English and im fluent in Spanish and this feels exactly like beginner courses all over again. If you want to learn a language by audiobook or book though, you really need to go the extra mile and have an unwilling victim to use your japanese on but, thats off subject. This book is sufficient in its attempts to teach beginner japanese.

Absolutely loved learning this way. Easy to follow. I can't wait to start my next lesson. My 12 year old son wants to learn about Japanese now.

Some good things & some not so good things

Lately I've been very spoiled with the Paul Noble language series. Unfortunately, he does not have a course for Japanese, so I settled for this one.

PROS:
*It does teach some very basic conversation skills.
*It teaches the numbers pretty well.
*There is some good general info about Japanese culture, food, alphabet, etc.
*On a trip to Japan, I found myself understanding more than I thought I would, and able to speak a little.

CONS:
*The narrators have weirdly scripted conversations back and forth. It sounds very contrived, and doesn't add in any way.
*I found myself needing to go back and re-listen to the dialogues many, many times before I really started to make sense of them.
*In general, it doesn't seem like this series puts any effort into understanding how the human brain learns language, which is why you will constantly need to go back and re-listen.

SUUUUPER HELPFUL!! and EASY!!!!

I work at a hotel with a lot of Japanese customers. This was one of the most easiest and informative lessons I've ever tried! (and I've been learning languages since I was 5 years old!)... I hope there's more!!
