Mystery at Camp Nightingale

The book was interesting enough but the voices of some of the characters detracted from the experience.

I just couldn't get through it

I LOVE Riley Sagers books, and I like this narrator too when she's using a normal reading voice. I just couldn't get through the baby voice she uses for most of the characters, a cutesy/exaggerated teen voice. It made me cringe. When she reads as the main character it's fine but I cannot listen to these baby voices any more, it's like very bad acting and the problem is that most of these characters are teenagers. I'm going to get the book on kindle instead so maybe that will be better. To be fair, this is no fault of the narrator at all, she's obviously been instructed to read it this way and she's great reading as the adult characters and other audiobooks I've listened to with her reading.

In terms of the actual story, it's more of a young adult book for teenagers rather than an adult thriller/suspense book. it's a shame because I was excited to listen. Sorry for the bad review but it was impossible to listen to without cringing and if this is something you'd notice too, I wouldn't waste the credit. Looking forward to more from Riley Sager and the narrator though!

If you loved Point Horror, you'll love this

I think all Riley Sager's books remind me of Point Horror books but for adults. Which is a huge endorsement as Point Horror was life in the 90s.
The narration is great and I thoroughly recommend.

Moira Rose reads this book

I have never written a review of an audiobook before, but it definitely needs mentioning that the narrator of this book talks like Moira Rose from schitts creek.

The Last Time I lied

What an ominous hook! Years ago, when Emma spent the summer at Camp Nightingale, three of her friends went into the woods and never return....

I love mysteries that return to an event in the past, and The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager does this brilliantly. We meet Emma again, fifteen years later, working as a successful artist in NYC, when she gets an invitation to go back to Camp Nightingale.

Once back at the camp, creepy events and characters from the past pop up. On numerous occasions, I felt I knew what happened only for the story to twist. It kept me guessing right up to the end!

The Last Time I Lied is very well-written and expertly narrated which makes this audiobook is an absolute pleasure to read.

Enjoyable

An easy listen, not trying to be too clever like many books of similar genre. Warmed well to the characters finding the narration amusing in how it added to the overall impression of the girls. Storyline as mentioned in another review remanissant to the Point Horror generation as well as the typical summer camp setting...kids if the 90s will surely appreciate this! Will be trying more from Riley Sager.

Great ending

Decent story was a bit too descriptive in parts more could have happened in the story. Great ending

Second book I had of Riley Sager

After purchasing Final Girls by the same author I couldn’t wait to start this story. I enjoyed the performance from Stephanie Cannon, she makes the story easy to listen too. The story was good, I enjoyed it, but didn’t grip me from the beginning and found it harder to get into. The descriptive writing from the first book didn’t come across in this. The twist at the end was a good one though. I’m definitely looking forward to more books from Riley Sager.

Really excellent

I have been listening to audible for 5 years or so now, and can’t remember the last book I enjoyed as much as this one. Lots of thrillers are very much the same and end up being predictable and boring, but this was a really enjoyable listen. Highly recommend.

Hold on for the payoff

The start is very predictable and formulaic but as you listen more, you suspect that was the intention of the author. The closer you get to the ending the more enthralled you become and the pay off at the end is pretty spectacular and I definitely did not see it coming.

Kept interest but overhyped

Enjoyable enough. Kept me intrigued but twist not as thrilling as hoped. Narrator was easy to listen to, though a couple of the characters voices were very similar so not always easy to remember who was who.

Mixed Feelings...

It was hard for me to properly become immersed in the story despite the intriguing premise and the suspense felt more irritating than eerie but there were a few exciting moments and twists but overall I feel ley down. most of the excitement felt a little late, thrown in only at the very end. perhaps I'll change my mind on reflection because truthfully I'm still processing bit for now I simply feel mildly disappointed, although I wish Emma's art was real because it sounds beautiful and exactly the sort of pieces of art I love.

Nice Summer read

In Australia we don’t really do the summer camp thing. But we obviously watch a lot of American tv and have memories or associations with them.
The Protagonist doesn’t hide what she is doing. She says she is but then does everything out in the open.
Considering the title the “Lie” is minor. But the twist I thought was quite good. Not hugely original but to its credit I didn’t see it coming, the multiple red herrings worked.

If I could give 1/2 a star I would

Omg this book was painful. Everyone was rich, attractive and successful. The whole storyline was so ridiculous and a waste of my life that I will never get back.
I am thinking about getting my money back. DO NOT BUY THIS unless you have trouble sleeping and need a remedy
