Publisher's summary

Nathan Andrews was a good man. It came as quite a surprise to him that he wanted to die.

The mysterious image of a woman haunts Nathan during a near death experience. She was "perfect" and everything a man would seek within a life partner. With the simple utterance, "Go back!" she forever conquered his heart.

Leaving a mental hospital after that, Nathan runs into an odd woman named Amanda. She barely knows English, doesn't recognize the simple things, and finally confesses an all-important truth to him: She...is God!

After some subtle convincing of the claim, and confronted by a winged man named "Gabriel," Nathan accepts this fantastic reality. A reality that will change his world, and the world of mankind...forever!

Good

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review. This was good. I did have a hard time due to God being a Woman, who has sex often, which does go against my religious views. However the story was very interesting as long as you can disconnect with your religious views.

A Big “What If?”

3.5 - Fictional modern story of “what if” storyline about God, Angels and demons. It’s fiction and should be read that way because I can imagine some people taking it the wrong way. Sometimes you know you’re being being “schooled” and often I thought there were some very interesting points being made. Other times I found myself really LOL. But the few too many times I said “Oh crap” dropped a star.
The Narrator did a good job and emoted.

Uniquely Knowing God

Nathan Andrews tells us his story and how he found himself with little to live for and sought to end his suffering, until visions of a mysterious and beautiful woman appear during his near-death experience ordering him to go back, away from the light. Then he encounters the same vision in the park and his heart is lost. Given who she is, one would expect Nathan to turn tail and run but his heart is gone and so he struggles through this new and different relationship.
The build-up of discovering the true identity of Amanda is entertaining in itself, especially when Gabriel makes his appearance as a handsome winged man … the fun keeps going until Lucifer makes his jaunt into Nathan’s life then things get a little out of whack forcing Nathan to make choices.
This is a story of one man and his relationship with God; it is not a common or stereotypical religious relationship either. It is way more than that as he gets to “know” God uniquely. I have heard other works by Donald Allen Kirch and find them all not only interesting but insightful, different, and yet still very much focused on moral beliefs and behaviors that challenge the norm. This book is no different as it challenges one’s view of God, the Bible/written works, and common points of faith shared across the religions in a subtle yet powerful way. This is not a preachy book by any means but simply opens one’s eyes up to other possibilities with a slight tongue-in-cheek manner. Humankind is not infallible!
Kirch develops each character fully as well as the storyline. Each plot twist is unexpected and complete. The dialog is well-developed also, adding to the strength of the story and each religious revelation.
The narrator, Monica Jaye gives a wonderful performance with a strong believable, and natural voice for each character. Her consistent narrative voice is easy to listen to and captures the emotions and personality of each character. I enjoyed listening to Jaye and found her voice added to the story and characters in a positive and powerful manner.
I also enjoyed Kirch’s earlier work, “Drop Dead Gorgeous.” Both of these books are great listens! I look forward to more by Kirch!

Not for me …..

I received this audiobook free on any charges & in return I'm offering my honest & unbiased review of this book . I had a lot of problems following the story & I believe that was because I have never had any religious education . Saints , devils , demons were involved & many referred to by name , EG , Gabriel . If I knew more about their lives in religious text & the roles they played I might of enjoyed this book . I was surprised that one of the main women in this book was God & she has sex often , this alone makes me think maybe I should of taken more notice & studied religion .. Nothing like a good sprinkling of sex to keep things moving . The narrator did very well , very clean & clear & kept the story flowing . Please don't discard this book because of my lack of understanding about the topic . There were parts that I enjoyed & I found humor in various parts .
