Publisher's summary

Jacobia "Jake" Tiptree is deep in her latest home-improvement project when she notices the man repeatedly biking past her house. His face is unsettlingly familiar, but his chilling message seems inexplicable: Blood shows up again. Murder will out.

Back in her days as a hotshot financial manager she did business with plenty of shady characters, but she's still baffled as to the identity of her nemesis - until she receives a photo of a murdered man. Now Jake knows what she's up against. But knowing her enemy is no guarantee that she can escape the grim payoff he has in store for her.

Knock out

I love this series and this entry was no different. Jake Tiptree is an independent woman who refuses to play damsel in distress. Once again she faces her demons alone and comes out on top. The only thing I didn't like was that the local characters were not mentioned as much. I look forward to the next book in this series.

Great series and narrator!

I’ve been listening to this series non-stop. The stories are very engaging and the narrator does a fantastic job with the voices. My only issue is the author’s overuse of adverbs, particularly with words like “off-puttingly”, “gaggingly”, and “hair-triggerishly”. I was taught if you have to use adverbs then your verb isn’t strong enough. Otherwise, Sarah’s prose is exceptional!

Knock out

This is a great series. I have read all of the books in the series and find that this is another solid addition. As always Lindsay Ellison does a great job portraying Jake and all of the other charactrers. If you are looking for a good cozy mystery this is it. Also try the other books in the series as well.

Thriller not mystery

Sarah Graves change her perspective in story telling from 1st person (Jake) to 3rd person telling the story from many characters perspectives. When she did this she changed from a mystery writer to a writer of thrillers. We now get all victims and villains perspectives, so we don’t get to try to figure out “who done it” instead we get to experience the insanity of psycho killers, to the agony and feelings of the victims to watch them survive and/or be resued, or to have their bodies found. But we already know the bad guy. So the emotions this invokes is anxiety, fear and sadness. When Graves was writing in 1st person she was writing mysteries and that invokes curiosity, intrigue, we’re right there with Jake in her mind trying to help figure it out. Sorry Sarah Graves, your new style is not my cup of tea. I say new with the understanding that the last novel in the Jake Tiptree series was written in 2013, and that she seems to have let the series go. Maybe others felt like I did and she wanted to write in the new style so she went on to something else.

Light weight and enjoyable

This series is extremely light weight, but interesting and fun to listen to. I enjoyed the book very much, but it is not for anyone looking for a story with any meat to it.

Can skip this one

I’ve listen to 13 books and this one just never stuck with me. Didn’t like the story at all.

A Real Nail Biter!

I can't remember when I have been so worried about a main character. It was totally engrossing and downright scary. Am curious how the author will follow this humdinger of a story.
