Publisher's Summary
It had seemed so simple. Get in, get the information, get out. But now they were getting inside her mind and she didn’t know how to stop them...
When Detective Kim Stone is called to the home of Samantha Brown, she finds the young woman lying in bed with her throat cut and a knife in her hand. With no sign of forced entry or struggle, Kim rules her death a tragic suicide.
But a visit to Samantha’s parents rings alarm bells for Kim - there’s something they’re not telling her. And, when she spots a clue in a photograph, Kim realizes she’s made a huge mistake. Samantha didn’t take her own life, she was murdered.
Then a young man’s body is found in a local lake with his throat cut and Kim makes a link between the victim and Samantha. They both spent time at Unity Farm, a retreat for people seeking an alternative way of life.
Beneath the retreat’s cozy façade, Kim and her team uncover a sinister community preying on the emotionally vulnerable.
Sending one of her own undercover into Unity Farm is high risk but it’s Kim’s only hope if she is to catch a killer - someone Kim is convinced the victims knew and trusted.
With Bryant distracted by the emergence of a harrowing case close to his heart, and an undercover officer in way over her head, Kim’s neck is on the line like never before. Can she protect those closest to her before another life is taken?
An unbelievably gripping crime thriller from best seller Angela Marsons that will have you hooked on the Detective Kim Stone series.

Well Done!
I have often left feedback about Marsons’ Kim Stone series. Kim Stone is absolutely one of my favorite detectives and the combination of Marsons’ dialogue and Jan Cramer’s reading of it, is consistently a delight! What made this novel all the more compelling for me was the application of constructive feedback I’ve left in the past. While it is possible this feedback was never read and the author made the choice herself, I was glad to not have to hear the killer’s point of view periodically throughout the book. In the past these vignettes have been read in an over-the-top manner that was distracting from Marsons’ pitch perfect writing. Whether it was due to my feedback or not, this novel struck the perfect balance! This particular mystery was cleverly outlined and executed. I’m not going to give away any spoilers. I’ll just say this is definitely one of Marsons’ most intriguing Stone novels to date. Well done!

ANOTHER WINNER
I have been eagerly waiting for this 12th book to come out in this amazing series and, as always, I was not disappointed! The characters are so fascinating with imperfections and yet total dedication to their job in solving crimes. I love the interactions between each member and the fierce dedication and loyalty they feel towards their boss, Kim Stone. If anyone is reading this review and has not started from the very first novel Silent Scream, I strongly recommend that you start with that one so you will know the full background of all of the characters. I envy you this journey. My only disappointment is now I have to wait for the next one to come along. I tried to make myself listen to this book in small increments but I just could not do it because it was too intriguing. Jan Kramer is the best narrator I have ever listened to and that involves a lot of audible books! She makes every single character come alive with their individual voice and accents. As an American reader, I’m always amazed at the lack of guns and weapons these police officers carry and yet are still able to do the very efficient job at fighting crime! Do NOT PASS THIS SERIES UP!

As always, this Kim Stone novel, delivers a nice easy read/listen. However, to me the end shouldn't need to be explained but more unravelled during the story. I'm not overly keen on the narration & it has put me off listening to this next installation for a while. I find many of the characters are given similar voices with the same frustrating intonation.

*Cruel Justice*
This instalment sees DI Kim Stone and her team tackling the disturbing case of cults. There are murders and as they are falling short of tying anything concrete to the cult leader, who they feel is manipulating people to exact revenge on the ones that have left the cult, Kim decides to send in one of their own “Tink” great to see her return to help out the team.
Of course upon visiting the place where the cult resides it looks just like a retreat. The man in charge is charismatic and is over confident. Kim has a hard time believing how dangerous this place is until she comes across a man who snatches people away from the cult with the parents permission, he then begins the long process of starting unpicking the harm that has been done to them.
Kim learns a lot from him and the more she learns she curses herself for sending “Tink” in undercover and not taking the idea of cults seriously. She starts to see the gravity of her decision and knows she has to get to their under cover officer out of there.
At the same time a killer locked away for his heinous crimes is due to released early. This does not sit well Bryant, it was one of his early cases and he now has the unenviable job of explaining it to the the affected relatives, Di Travis and his team are on the case.
Will Kim get to “Tink” before it’s too late? What will Bryant do to help keep the criminal where he belongs….

Another great book from Angela Marsons - When l used to read her books l couldn't turn the page fast enough and now that l listen to them, l cant listen long enough - you just want more.
Good story good pace (as always). Nice tone, nice flow.
This one touches on cults ... updates the reader on how they work now these days compared to the traditional types of the 80's. I have wondered about the authors source of knowledge as she often goes deeper than just a good google dive. I wonder if she taps on the shoulders of Police, Priests , Politicians, Psychiatrist and Psychologist’s - who knows, but nicely informative.
