Publisher's summary

Daxton Chambers loved being a part of the oldest and most distinguished law enforcement agency in the state of Texas: the Texas Rangers. But the person who was burying women alive in his city of San Antonio was always two steps ahead of him...and he hated it.

Mackenzie Morgan lived what she considered a normal life. She worked at a non-profit agency, hung out with her best friend, had an annoying-but-loving family, was clumsy, had a tendency to ramble when she was nervous...and was still searching for the man to spend the rest of her life with.

Meeting Mack, and finding out just how perfect she was for him, wasn't a part of Dax's plan. But he'd be damned if he was going to complain about it. Unfortunately, Dax's job wasn't always safe. Both Mack and Dax would find that out the hard way.

Justice for Mackenzie is the first book in the Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.

Enjoyed it

I was given this book in exchange for an unbiased review via audiobook boom. I don't know what the other reviewers were talking about with the narrator. Perhaps I got a revised edition of the story. She just read the book. I could tell when each of them was talking and no background noises. She also did not try to lower her voice to be Dax or any male character. I love stories where the H/h like each other from the beginning and we see how the romance progresses. If the author is not good at making the story go from dislike to love they should leave it alone. Ms. Stoker did a good job with this love at first sight. I like also that the suspense came from the outside. I also love it that neither of them was perfect. Yes, I like hunky guys but some of us not so perfect people fall in love also and after all there are only a few people in the world who fit some of those perfect molds. The rest of us are plain average people and we enjoy a great love life just like Dax and Mack. Loved the fact that all of the kid's names, as well as the parent's started with M. Funny!

Great Story!!

It was a little hard going from the narrator from the Seals series, to this one. However, the story line is so awesome that it helped with the transition. She eventually grew on me, and is okay.

Was good not great

I enjoyed the story line. I thought the descriptive details was old fashion at times. I will get the next one I hope that she can bring herself to write a different word for vagina instead of folds. I mean come one there are plenty. Lol. And I did hear what it sounds like maybe a basketball game. or some other sport in background, not good😑

I want a Dax ;)

It was easy to fall in love with Dax. Kind, loyal, strong and with a big heart, no wonder he caught Mack's heart. She is hilarious, clumsy and talks a lot, but that is what makes her endearing. She made me laugh out loud with her rambles. I loved that the story is about a second chance at HEA for an older couple than the usual 20something. Quite a trip these two have on the way to that though. I cried when he talked to her while watching her last minutes on the monitor, my heart almost stopped but it all ends well. Loved the friendship between Dax and his crew from different divisions and how they have each other's backs. Looking forward to Cruz's story.
Ms. Mallon really breathed life into the characters, the various voices distinct and the story flowed easily with the emotions clearly expressed. Very enjoyable listening experience.

Great Start to a Series

Daxton and MacKenzie are perfect characters for this story. MacKenzie ' s quirky personality and Daxton's hot self caught and kept my attention throughout the book. The story line was totally believable and realistic. Looking forward to the next book.

a bit surprising

I wasn't expecting what I got with this book, but am so glad that the author wrote it this way. The characters just work and the plot is believable. I enjoyed the story, characters, and how everything went down.

Great Non Perfect Characters

I enjoyed this book very much and have found a new favorite author. Wonderful, likable, older, flawed characters. Loved that the characters were not "slight," "fit," "beautiful," or twenty-something. Narrator was okay. Story was okay, but the characters made the book.

Good story but sucky narrator!

The story for me was between three and four stars so I gave it 4 . There was some weird dialogue sometimes between the hero and heroine , especially during sex. SS needs to work on her sex scenes a little bit to make them sexier and not stilted . Otherwise though, it was a pretty good story. It had me on the edge of my seat sometimes.

The narrator on the other hand was terrible. Her acting skills need serious work. Her male voices vs female voices were pretty good except that she just didn't have the proper inflection or emotion for the scenes . This book could have been so much better if she had done that properly.

I'll give one more of her books a try but if it's not better than this one it will only be Kindle unlimited for free or library books from this author in the future.

Could have been good

Decent story but the dialogue was juvenile and laughable, which I'm fairly certain wasn't the intention. The female lead character was 37 and talked like she was 13. The sex talk between this pair of 37 and 46 year olds was beyond ridiculous. I would not recommend this author unless she stops writing dialogue for her characters!
