In Ezra we witness the exiles’ return to rebuild the temple. Destroyed by the Babylonians in 586 B.C., the temple is rebuilt and dedicated in 516 B.C. But it is nothing like the fabulous temple Solomon built. In fact, when those who had seen Solomon’s temple see the second temple, they weep at its inadequacy!

Dr. Creasy draws on his studies, travels, and personal anecdotes to depict a vivid picture of the works of scripture. Dr. Creasy, when describing travelling to the synagogue of Jeremiah in Cairo, talks about Jeremiah’s unenviable dual job of priest and prophet, having to "represent the people before God" and "God before the people". Uterly amazing.
This gives a picture of our life in a foreign place through the prophet Jeremiah. His story can be our story. it is God's story. Salvation through grace, faith, and perseverance in a world were God gives is every day the free choice to walk humbly with the Lord, to hear the Word of God, or to go our own way, the way of an unfaithful spouse.
Jeremiah speaks to our condition in the power of the hope of God and with the sensibilities to understand being a witness for God requires real faith working through trials. Jeremiah is a picture of the loving compassionate servant of God. Meek, but strong. This voice crying out in the wilderness here to make our path straight is crying out in the life and testimony of Jeremiah, like John the Baptist who placed his life before the Lord and poured it out for His sake. Quite beautiful, touching, prescriptive, and gives depth to understand put time and place under the sun.
May God richly give us a heart to give away for His good.
