Publisher's Summary

Conner

Jake was my best friend. My first crush. The love of my life. Until he screwed up. We both did, really. Now I tell everyone that I’m over him. I tell them that it doesn’t matter, because I’m an independent omega, out to change the world. The truth is that I miss him. The bigger truth is that I want to lose myself in him, but I’m afraid to lose myself in the process.

Jake

I’ve done a lot of stupid things in my life, but breaking up with Conner has got to top the list. I was mad and I was an idiot, and now I regret it all. Now I would give up anything to get him back. Even myself.

Conner complains that I’m overprotective. Too alpha. Can’t he see that he’s my other half and if anything happened to him, how could I go on with only half a heart? How do I convince him to give me another chance? I’m a paramedic. Every day, I swoop in like a superhero to help mend broken arms, legs, bodies. Why can’t I mend this broken heart?

Delightful CAKE

If you’ve read the Oceansport series before this, you have met both Jake and Connor and read about their childhood stories here and there in the series. Jake is from a wealthy family but you wouldn’t know it from how he acts and lives. He’s fun-loving, down to earth, caring, and helpful. Connor is serious, introverted, and caring but with a core of fire and steel and his focus has always been on Omega rights and helping people esp. omegas. They’ve been best friends since childhood but we know from earlier books that something happened between them and they have broken up. This is the story of how they find their second chance with each other and discover that there’s so much more to their relationship than they thought. John Solo’s narration is as always delightful. I love how he imbued the characters with live and unique voices. The story becomes more vivid because he’s narrating it. I love the story and the excellent narration just make this a wonderful addition to my library. If you are in for a very sweet and romantic story that’s filled with friendship and love, this one perfectly fits the bill. And Connor + Jake is perfectly well-baked CAKE that’s a delight for both heart and ear.

Cake

Been waiting on this book for a long time and I'm so happy to see how everything turned out! This book was definitely a feel good book despite then coming back from a separation!

Finally getting Jake and Conner's story

I've been waiting for this story and wasn't disappointed. We get little bits of their history throughout the prior stories so I'm so glad this book is out. Jake is still over-protective and Conner is still strong and independent but they finally manage to work out their issues. I waited to listen to this instead of reading it and I wasn't disappointed. John Solo does such a great job bringing the characters to life.

A long awaited disappointment

I've been looking forward to Jake and Conners book since I met them in the Oceanport series. I was severely disappointed with the book. The narration was pretty good. the characters were distinct, the inflection and pacing pleasant. (Although towards the end Jakes voice started grating on my nerves) As for the story, Conner was annoying and Jake was whiny. All Jake could think and talk about was getting Conner back. When they were together their dynamic was tepid rather than exciting. In my personal opinion they really weren't meant for one another, and had Jake not been so persistent they could have happily been with others. Full disclosure I stopped listening halfway through and instead finished it by reading the book. I listen to a book to get immersed in the story, with this book I just wanted to get to the end hoping it would get better. Had it done so I would have switched back to the audiobook.

All Grown Up and Ready for Their HEA

Having been a fan of Ann-Katrin Byrde's Oceanport series, I was very excited for a grown up Jake and Conner to get their HEA.  Conner is an omega, determined to not let his designation determine what he can and can't do in his life, and often finds his stubbornness costing him in his personal life.   Jake reminds me of an overgrown puppy, loving, hopeful and occasionally his excitement to move forward causes him to trip over his too big puppy paws.  I loved reading about these two all grown up, and yet still being able to see some of those little boys I was first introduced to.  John Solo is a great narrator.  He is easy to follow, and enjoyable to listen to. His voices are distinctive so you never lose track of which character is talking.

reunited again

Over reactions, misunderstandings, and loads of love contained within. Jake and Connor's relationship is bittersweet with multiple missed attempts and bumps in the road, but they finally get it together as they have family and friends rooting for them. I just loved watching their story play out, with the help of the incomparable and multi talented narrator who brought it all to life. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this story and am giving an honest review.

Loved every single second!!

I am a fan to read and re read my favorite books so hearing as a way to re read one of my favorite authors in the amazing acting voice of John Solo was a treat. This was the most amazing, romantic, cute, and lovable story ever!! I cried a lot but also loved every single second of it. I’m against spoilers but...., the epilogue is .... simply perfect!!

as good as the ebook

The story is always full stars, because if I wouldn't like the story as ebook, I wouldn't listen to the audiobook. I can't listen to an audiobook without knowing the book, that's not possible for me. The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. It took me a little bit, to come into the narrator, but at the end, it worked. I only have to take a few breaks between. I'm just not yet finish with the book, but I listen enough to give a review. PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!! To my ratings: 5* - very very good it's like an A+ 4* - very good and will be often re-listening it's like an A 3* - it's more then a one-time-listening. it's like a B

Ahh, young love

Poor Connor and Jake. They've loved each other in various forms throughout their lives and are absolutely perfect for each other. Young love, though, can be all encompassing to the exclusion of rational thought. It's fraught with emotions and hormones and outside forces preying upon it. Jake is very much an Alpha, all-knowing and possessive and Connor is very independent. They're both still growing though, learning and settling into themselves when Jake makes an enormous mistake, saying things he instantly regrets, causing Connor to break things off. His pride holds him back until he realizes that neither one of them will ever be truly happy until he learns how to give Connor his independence without smothering and controlling him. I really appreciated Connor making Jake work for their reconciliation, up until I actually feared him not forgiving him. Their journey on the path to happiness was rocky but so well worth the heartache for their richly deserved HEA. John Solo's narration was spot on as his voice carried over the changes for the characters from childhood to teens and then as men.
