Go Behind the Scenes with Molly Burke of It's Not What It Looks Like
It’s not what you might think, either
Molly Burke is a blind YouTuber. Those words alone might be enough to have you 🤔, but challenging widely held assumptions is the driving principle behind the videos she makes for her 1.8 million subscribers—and is the powerful undercurrent of her new Audible Original, It’s Not What It Looks Like. What’s most striking about Burke is not that she’s blind, but how in so many ways she sounds just like any other early-20s internet phenom: obsessed with the color pink and makeup tutorials, and starstruck in the presence of those more famous than her. Her subtly raspy voice, which always seems to have a smile at its root, brings added authenticity to this compelling memoir from an upbeat motivational speaker whose work to normalize disabilities is so ever-present it’s almost imperceptible (much like her blindness).

Authentic, heart-wrenching, infinitely hopeful
I’m a pretty masculine guy, I ride motorcycles, drive a big truck, shoot guns, etc. I rarely cry. This book had me ugly crying at one point. And welling up with tears as several others. It’s one of the most real, authentic books I’ve read in a long time. Absolutely worth it.

Very Inspirational
I totally recommend this book! It is such a great book! I feel that more people need to spread the word on breaking stereotypes and learn how to respect people that are different. The world is full of diversity and people need to realize that and respect it. It’s reality. Not only am I a huge fan of Molly but I love her story!
I too, was bullied and I think people need to learn to be kind, and not put a target on someone’s back. I feel all bullies out there (you know who you are) need to seek help and not take it out on ‘easy targets’. The way Molly talks about her journey in life so far, is so mature and refreshing. It’s refreshing because, a majority of people look at things negativity and more people need to think of the glass half full!
I purchased the book the day it came out!
I love it so much!❤️

3 books with varied results
This book is really 3 books, which is weird to say about something so short
- Youtube career trajectory 2/5 stars: this is like hearing a film star talk about their rise to fame over decades, honing their craft, the trials and tribulations, the ups and downs... only replace all of that with how many followers your youtube channel has.
- Motivational speaking: 3/5 stars: your reaction to this area will depend on how you feel about positive but fairly generic motivational speaking and affirmations.
- Personal memoir: 5/5 stars. This was the most interesting parts and if you get the audiobook it should be for this. Her life story and experiences are interesting and well-told -- both the parts specific to be being blind and the parts which have nothing to do with blindness. I'd love to have heard more about her as a person.

This is a book about Molly's life. Her story is relatable even for a sighted person. I have been watching her YouTube video's for about 3 years now, and I still didn't know about 1/2 the stuff she says in this book. Its really inspirational to go after your dreams. And as someone who struggles with mental health its awesome to know that not everything comes easy for anyone. She really shows her personalty in this book as well, witch I love!

Loved it so much!
I'm so glad Molly read her book, first of all. I've been a follower for a while now and learned more than I knew previously through this book. It sort of fits many of her different videos into the story of her life in a way that the videos don't because they are just that, videos added at all different times on specific topics. The advice given and lessons learned are something I could go back and listen to again for inspiration because they're that powerful. To me it always seems that Molly's success and confidence came easily because of her attitude and personality, but it's obviously not that simple and I appreciate her sharing her struggles. Love hearing about her support systems and the importance of those. Molly is an amazing person and even though I'm older than her, she's a role model for sure.

Don’t Bother. It’s free for a reason.
If I had paid for this I would have asked for a refund. Imagine sitting next to a high school valley girl while she tells her life story. Got it, she’s blind - but not everything is THAT dramatic. And although she scolds you for applauding people with disabilities for doing normal things - the 5 star across the board reviews wouldn’t be here if people didn’t feel bad for giving bad reviews to the blind girl.
Also, since she berates you for an entire chapter about how recent “service” dog owners are taking away from the legit ones (a good point that she wears out), maybe she should reconsider how her self diagnosis of PTSD from falling off of a 5ft stage resonates with survivors of a truly traumatic event. Just something to consider...
No real substance other than the recounting of bullying which is useful to let children hear so they can see it from the victim’s view. But if that’s all you’re after, read/listen to/watch Wonder.

Love this book by Molly Burke . September 2016 I was told I was going blind and the cause diagnosed
About four months later I found Molly’s YouTube channel and started to think maybe I could learn to live my life to the full again.
This 50 something learned a lot from the young twenty something on her YouTube channel
This book has helped remind me how far I’ve come and reminded me never to give up

I love this autobiography.
Molly's voice is also very easy to follow and listen to. Her story as a young disabled woman navigating through this very ableist society hits home for me. Recommend this audible even for non-disabled people.
I love how Molly touches on; inspiration, Disability-Porn, Achievements and struggles that she's gone through since young till now. 10/10 for delivery and using her strength of description to draw the listener in.

If you’re a frequent Viewer of her channel.... there’s not that much new information about her life
Good performance but the story is basically all her YouTube videos merged together... not that much new stories/information.
Good if you’re looking for an inspirational book but not as a semi-biography.

Delightful
Molly's bright uplifting voice exudes enthusiasm and positivity. Her journey through struggle to a triumphant end makes a compelling story, which is skilfully told. The advice she imparts at the end is rich and valuable. Thank you xox

A story to put things in perspective
As someone who suffered a BRVO in my left eye, with its residual impact on my general sight, I know the feeling, even though my situation is in now way close to what the author went through. Listening to it - besides enjoying the bubbly style of Miss Burke - helped put things into perspective for me. A beautiful listen. Well done Molly!

LOVED
had so much fun with this !!! as someone who struggles with a visual impairment i often need audiobooks to listen to so this was perfect for that. i’m a big fan of Molly’s and getting to learn more about her and her life being blind was really interesting and enjoyable!!! some of the things she went through i’ve dealt with too and it helped me feel less alone, and the things i haven’t been through were just very insightful to hear about !! i definitely recommend if you are a fan of Molly’s or just want to learn more about the life of someone who is blind!
