At 22, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother's death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life: to hike the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State - and to do it alone. She had no experience as a long-distance hiker, and the trail was little more than “an idea, vague and outlandish and full of promise.” But it was a promise of piecing back together a life that had come undone.

Publisher's Summary
Enter the woods...if you dare.
For centuries, the woods have been a pivotal part of the wonder and danger of fairy tales, for once you enter anything can happen. Elves, druids, fairies - who knows what you will find once you dare step into the forest?
And now, New York Times best-selling author Kim Harrison ventures into these mysterious, hidden lands of magic and mystery in her first short-story collection. Into the Woods brings together an enchanting mix of brand-new, never-before-published stories and tales from Harrison's beloved, best-selling Hollows series.
The tales here include an original Hollows novella, "Million-Dollar Baby", about Trent Kalamack's secret elven quest in Pale Demon; two original short stories, "Pet Shop Boys" and "Temson Woods," that explore just what happens when humanity and the supernatural collide; and two novelettes, "Spider Silk" and "Grace," set in new worlds of imagination and adventure. Into the Woods also contains all of the previously published Hollows short stories - together in one volume for the very first time.
Step into the woods and discover the magic for yourself.

Pleasantly surprised, a must for Hollows fans
I typically dislike short story compilations (at least short stories about characters encountered in series, as opposed to stand-alone short stories, like Flannery O'Connor classics, etc) and so, despite being a Hollows fan, haven't read any of these previously. I usually feel cheated with a short story compilation, but not with this volume. If you are a fan of the Hollows series, you shouldn't miss this book. I loved getting the extra background on the secondary characters and the chance to hear new stories about characters who have "passed beyond the veil" in the series. Especially loved the caper with Jenks and Trent (Million Dollar Baby.) That story alone is worth the purchase price.
Gavin, as always, delivers as narrator. She is becoming one of my favorites, along with Kate Reading, Grover Gardner, George Guidall, Simon Prebble, Stephen Pacey, Bernadette Dunne -- well, I go on for awhile with this list. I will just say I think Gavin is on par with some of the better narrators.

5 Star Bonus, questions answered! & More Kisten
This one really is for the fans of the Hollows. It was fun getting all the juicy insiders about Rachel, Ivy, Trent, Al and the rest. But for me it was so nice to get more of Kisten. This collection of short stories has great stories with Kisten. Yes that sexy Kisten and you get to see how close he really was with Ivy and even a deeper love for Rachel. If you are hungry for more of Kisten, Rachel, Ivy, Trent and yes Jenks. This little morsel might just help tide be over until the release of the next Hollow’s book. Another great surprise is length of the anthology. It is so work the credit. I was thoroughly entertained for 20 and 6 minutes with Marguerite Gavin as the narrator, she is a terriffic narrator!. Thanks audible for offering this at such a great price. Wow what a deal! Kim Harrison really know how to say thank you to her fans, this collection of short stories is all for the Fans. I loved it!

Just what we needed!
I usually don't go in for the short stories. I love these stories that fill in holes in the past. Exactly how Cerri was trapped by Al, Rachel sumoning Pierce the first time as a teenager, and the effect it had on her. A must read if you follow this series.

The good, the bad, and the undead
I like most of the stories but not all. Only listen to this book if you have already read the other books in the series. The only question mark I have is the story about kistin. I could have sworn in The Undead Pool Rachael said kistin didn't have any siblings but in the short story about him in this book, he has a sister. Anyway... some stories are good and some stories are bad but all are worth listening to if you are fan of the hollows.

got me back into reading the hollows again!
Is there anything you would change about this book?
I was pleasantly surprised with the writer, reader and story overall.
Would you recommend Into the Woods to your friends? Why or why not?
I would mostly recommend this particular book of shorts to people who are already reading the hollows series the only reason I really say that is because some of the stories would be confusing if read before starting the series. as some of the shorts contain characters that aren't in all of the hollows books.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Marguerite Gavin?
I was impressed with the reader especially liking the voice she chose for the infamous pixie Jenks.a good voice match for a good character.
Did Into the Woods inspire you to do anything?
I picked up this gem of a read for a change in pace when things started to get a little too slow paced for me in the hollows series. hoping that the shorts would pack just enough concentrated punch to encourage me to go back to reading the hollows series at great length ... and it had me doing just I am now on book seven of the series and that is pretty good because i was two books behind that only a couple weeks before.

Every bit as brilliant as the other novels
I was totally taken by surprise by this collection. In my experience, anthologies in this genre are usually short, overpriced, and poorly narrated with someone other than the main series books use.
Into The Woods is rich and long, a huge collection of detailed stories about different Hollows characters, and is all narrated by Marguerite Gavin, who is simply the voice of all the Hollows characters to anyone who's been listening to them for a while.
The stories are often from different points of view; I found it particularly fun to read from the POV of Al, and Trent, among the others.
They contain insights, more world building, fantastic characterisation and glimpses into the relationships from a perspective other than Rachel's.
If you're a fan of the Hollows books, this is absolutely worthwhile. It's a fantastic collection and wonderful to see it being given such attention so it really fits into the series.

One for the fans
I love the Hollows books and I really enjoyed these back stories, although they did make me want to revisit some of the books to fix the timeline. If you are new to the books, not one to start with, but if like me you have read them all and wait with baited breath for the next installment, then you will enjoy it.

For Hollows readers
If you like Hollows series you will probably like this book too. It was interesting to read how Trent rescued his dotter and how Al got Ceri to ever after.
I even enjoyed the stories, most of them, that aren’t linked to Hollows.
