Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

Publisher's summary
It began with Eragon.... It ends with Inheritance.
Not so very long ago, Eragon-Shadeslayer, Dragon Rider, was nothing more than a poor farm boy, and his dragon, Saphira, only a blue stone in the forest. Now the fate of an entire civilization rests on their shoulders. Long months of training and battle have brought victories and hope, but they have also brought heartbreaking loss. And still, the real battle lies ahead: they must confront Galbatorix. When they do, they will have to be strong enough to defeat him. And if they cannot, no one can. There will be no second chances.
The Rider and his dragon have come further than anyone dared to hope. But can they topple the evil king and restore justice to Alagaësia? And if so, at what cost?

What a boring, predictable load of trollop
Paolini needs to learn how to write. Dialogue is stilted, plot is boring and full of tedious and predictable problems.
If you want good fantasy, try Patrick Rothfuss or Russel Kirkpatrick.

Could Have Been Better
I loved book 1 & 3. Book 2 was OK. This book was also just OK. I felt like Chris just got bored with the story. He could have ended it in several places and just wrote another book which would have been preferable to what he did with this one. There are too many questions left unanswered and he could have done so much more with this story. The ending is just lazy.

Literary marvel, similar to Lord of the Rings
Would you consider the audio edition of Inheritance: The Inheritance Cycle, Book Four, Part One to be better than the print version?
As with Lord of the Rings and similar novels I find the audio edition to be a great companion to reading the novel. I listened and read at the same time. When I could not read I listened.
What other book might you compare Inheritance: The Inheritance Cycle, Book Four, Part One to and why?
I would compare The Inheritance Cycle to the Lord of the Rings. The imagery created by the description was vivid, the style of language suited the time of the novels and the creation of the setting was brilliant.
Any additional comments?
Regarding Gerrard Doyle's performance I can say that his voice suited the style of the novels. I was very disappointed with the voice of Saphira and found Glaedr's annoying for to long.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. But there is a glitch in about the last 15-20 minutes, they repeat the segment after the dwarfs meet them, hope this can be fixed, it mucks up the flow of the ending.

Incredulousness !?
The story is great, but the editing is awful. Since when does a *professional editor* overlook the use of the non-word "incredulousness" when the real word "incredulity" is simpler, well known and a lot less clumsy. The mind boggles!
The narration is, as always, very good, and in many ways covers up the blunders made by the author and his publishing company. The story is pretty exciting, and I can't wait for the conclusion in part 2.

I always find it interesting how preferences differ. Others note that this the last book, and the second book in the cycle are their least favorite, whereas I enjoyed them the most. These have been books that I have grown up with but managed to not grow out of - definitely recommend!

Totally spellbinding
What made the experience of listening to Inheritance: The Inheritance Cycle, Book Four, Part One the most enjoyable?
The story is incredibly captivating, moving, exciting and exilerating. The plot is incredibly well thought out and planned so that every part of the story starting from Eragon (Book 1 Inheritance cycle) up to the last one makes perfect sense and keeps on flowing into each other.
What other book might you compare Inheritance: The Inheritance Cycle, Book Four, Part One to and why?
I cannot compare the Inheritance work to any other fantasy work, because it is so much better than anything else that I have read. Christopher Paolini has re-defined the magic fantasy category, and lifte the bar WAY high.

Too long and a disappointing end (Spoilers)
To start, the book is written well and the narration is good…but if you read this series you will be disappointed at the end. I got this book to get closure to the other three books I read. But the closure I got, makes you feel hollow, unsatisfied, frustrated and just annoyed! After four books, where the boy and girl are as close and two people can be, the boy does not get the girl and it makes no sense. I can only conclude that Elves do not care for relationships, the way humans do.
Still, so damm annoying the big baddie gets killed the land is safe and nobody hooks up to live happily after. They all just go to sleep alone with their pet dragons! Lame lame lame.
Also the book is too long for the story told and the audacity of splitting the book in two for the sake of getting more money just makes this series reek of corporate filthy greed.

Overlong and overpriced.
The author has dragged the story out excruciatingly, and audible has exploited the fact that this is a long- awaited conclusion by charging 2 credits for it instead of the 1 it deserves, are we to start paying credits for half a book?

The Series That Shaped My Life
I first read Inheritance years ago when it was first released. Listening back to it now brings back such a deep nostalgia that I know will resonate within me forever. I have no doubt that these books will stay with me for as long as I live and have shaped me to be the person I am today and continue to shape me and my choices.
This reading was entertaining and added characteristics to the books where I might have overlooked. Furthermore it was so gripping that I often found it hard to stop listening. Overall, it was a great listen and one I don't doubt that I shall come back to.

Inheritance Book 4 - onlty half the story :(
The audio quality is good, pleased to have 'Saphira's' voice back to the lovely growly sound it was in book one . I was enjoying the story keeping me awake whilst driving on a long journey - when the story just cut off mid book, with message saying thank you and hoped I enjoyed audible ..... on contacting the customer services I was told I had only purchased half the book and ti hear the rest of the story I will have to buy part two! - What a swiz ! I have bought many many audio books for my children over the years, on CD and from I tunes- including v long books such as all of the 'Harry Potter ' - bur NEVER Before have I been sold just HALF A BOOK ! ..So Just a warning... lovely story- but if you want too hear both the beginning and end of the story that is written as a single book, you have to buy TWO different audiobooks to get just one book . It would have 5 stars if it wasn't for this issue

Long. Rubbish ending.
After 16 quid and about 30 hours of my life, I feel utterly cheated by most of the book and the rubbish ending. Drags all over the place, half character development, no conclusion for some of them. I feel actually "tired" at the end of it. And then he says he's planning number 5? Sod that, I'm not going to be waiting another 5 or 10 years for the next one.
Ruined the series.

Terrific Story
I have thoroughly enjoyed all four parts of this story. Mr. Doyle has done a terrific job in voicing all the characters. I have seen the movie and that has helped my visualisation of certain parts of the story. I have read all the books.
The only issue I had was how Mr. Doyle voiced Sapphira. I guess being a female dragon I would have liked her to be voiced in a higher register, still gravelly, as all dragon voices were portrayed that way.
I am also a little saddened by the firm stance Mr. Paolini has taken in not writing story #5 in this series. Maybe he might change his mind in a decade or so.

Intense, not your typical ending
I really enjoyed this series, the story is very interesting and real in the sense that while it's fantasy it's not fairy tale ending. The characters are very strong in their own right and different to each other.

Story
Their peace was a fragile thing, but it had endured for seven years, mostly because the people of Darassus and the king of the Naor hordes believed his doom was foretold upon the edge of the great sword hung in the hall of champions. Unruly Naor clans might raid across the border, but the king himself would never lead his people to war so long as the blade remained in the hands of his enemies. But when squire Elenai’s aging uncovers evidence that the sword in their hall is a forgery, she’s forced to flee Darassus for her life, her only ally the reckless, disillusioned Kyrkenall.
