One accident. One nurse. One choice.
For years Bridget has hidden who she is from her small hometown. A democratic lesbian wouldn't very easily be elected Sheriff in the Bible Belt, and she doesn't want to give up her dream of working in law enforcement.
When a freak accident with a combine throws her life into chaos and nearly kills her, she must learn to rely on friends and family she wasn't sure she still had. With a desperate call to Eli, Bridget comes home, to a new world, a new life, and a new love. She is ready to come out and face the consequences.

I read this for the 2025 Sapphic Book Bingo Micro-Tropes reading challenge for the prompt Comforting After a Nightmare.
CW: life threatening injury leading to a hospital stay, homophobia
Oh thank goodness Bridget gets a book. I had mixed feelings about her in book one but with time and insight into her head, she really redeemed herself and became such a delightful character.
Quick Thoughts:
- One of the big issues that is done wonderfully is the prejudices of Bridget’s family. The best part about this is that it’s not all rainbows and sunshine in the end with them
- This is basically an instant-love story that is so well done that I didn’t even realize it until I started writing my review
- We only get a few chapters from Jerica’s POV, around 90% of the book is from Bridget’s POV which is needed since she was the antagonist in book one
- Loved watching Eli and Bridget reconnect. Seeing that was as wonderful as watching Jerica and Bridget fall in love
- No third act break up!
- I really enjoyed coming into the story at the point that Bridget is fed up with hiding herself so we get the coming out angst but very little of the hiding herself angst
- Something that is usually glossed over in most Small Town setting books is the casual racism of some of the people in the town. It is noted here but it isn’t really shown much. I would have liked a little deeper dive into that but it wouldn’t fit the the lighter narrative of this book
- Quinn Riley is just fantastic. I’m so glad I have a bunch more books of hers to listen to
Overall I loved this book. Such a sweet ending to an emotional roller coaster of a series. So many great characters and connections, all narrated by the amazing Quinn Riley. This series really shows the growth of Adrian J. Smith as a writer and it previews the other great books I have to look forward to this year as I work through her catalog.

Then comes along Jerica, the nurse that helped save her life after an almost fatal accident.
It was nice that at Eli was back, and Ann and Sarah made appearances.
Read the series in order to know the characters and how Bridget and Eli ended, how Sarah and Eli begin, and how other characters come into play.
