Much of what plagues us - people pleasing, staying in stale relationships, negative habits - all point to what happens when we are out of touch with what truly makes us feel whole.

Story
Bittersweetness is a tendency to states of longing, poignancy, and sorrow; an acute awareness of passing time; and a curiously piercing joy at the beauty of the world. It recognizes that light and dark, birth and death - bitter and sweet - are forever paired. Susan Cain employs the same mix of research, storytelling, and memoir she used in Quiet to explore why we experience sorrow and longing, and how embracing the bittersweetness at the heart of life is the true path to creativity, connection, and transcendence.

Good advice for all--adults, that is .
If you care about our world, our values, and how we treat one another, this book is for you! I am 75+ years old and this book was written for a far younger age group. I listened to learn more about the world as my grandchildren in their 20's experience it. Very helpful! I didn't like the profanity, but the author expresses herself well otherwise, with stories and examples to make her points. She narrates with enthusiasm for her subject and if you're honest, you'll feel "judged" at least once.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
This book was good and there were definitely some laugh out loud moments. If you're a fan of her blog then you will like this book. They're similar writing styles.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
I love that the author narrated her own story but, i felt like sometimes she wasn't speaking clearly.

...but i must sound the *corny jokes alert*
besides the occasional corny jokes which were like speed bumps on a highway, this book was such a good read/listen. Luvvie dealt with contemporary social issues on our minds without any byte of chill. This book will be your inner "side eye" when you're about to commit the typical social (and social media) gaffes.

Refreshingly and unapologetically honest
This is the first book I have read from this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it. This book quite simply addresses the fact that the world appears to be going mad and normalising a lot of bad behaviours for a variety of reasons and people seem to not only be desensitised to it but often treat it as normal. Well, done Luvvie for calling BS and challenging these "norms". Can somebody please give her a bigger mic and a larger podium to preach from?. Thank you. Off to go read her next book.
