Just what I needed!

There are times when I need something to rejuvenate my listening, and I can always count on SR Grey to help me out. Her writing is smart, has a great story, a lot of humor and always that warm, passion that brings me back to loving romances. This 7th book in the Boys of Winter series is a little different, taking us to the World Hockey Championships with Noel. He meets the beautiful Maisey who has been stranded in Sweden by her less than caring mother. Determined to get back to the states, she is planning to use her feminine wiles on Noel to get him to buy her a plane ticket home. But things are never that simple! What wonderful characters these two are! I love Maisey. She is not only beautiful, but a little naive in her thinking. She is unassuming, finds herself swept up in what is Noel. Noel is just a wonderful surprise. I fell for him immediately. Not only a great athlete, but he is truly beautiful on the inside. This love story is sweet, spicy and all around full of humor and good feelings. I loved it! (Not so much Maisey's mom though!)

I have never heard Avie Paige before this story and I loved her. She is passionate and has a great array of voices. I enjoyed her pacing and loved the way her voice pulled me into the story. I will be looking for more of her work!

Illusion on Ice

S.R. Grey manages to keep surprising me on her characters. This one starts off abroad and Noel meets Maisie in the hotel bar. He normally just heads off to bed for a quiet night but he spotted her and can't resist. She needs a way home. And being out of the country shes not sure how to do that except maybe hustle one of the US hockey boys. Its not normally her style but its an emergency. Maisie is such a sweet character and Noel is just amazing and totally a true hero. Great job on the narration.

Fun Read

This was a fun read. Maisie is stuck in Sweden thanks to her mom, her relationship with her mom was unexpected. I liked that there were parts that were different than expected, especially when others were predictable. Noel was a great character. Overall it was a fun bubbly story.

Avie Paige's narration was good, though at times it both voices were too similar.

Loved the sweet story

This is such a sweet story of love and redemption. Noel is such a fantastic and sweet man, having the most patience as Maisie learns to overcome her background and fears of laying herself out and trusting someone. They have a great connection and the story pops. I enjoyed listening and will definitely be going back and listening to the other Boys of Winter stories!

One of my favourites

This is one of my favourite Hockey series of all time and this was a fabulous addition to the series. Whenever I read a Boys of Winter book I feel as though I am coming home. Noel Sandlund and Maisie Troy’s story is extremely well written and S.R. Grey weaves a story that will keep you absolutely invested from the first to the last page.

I have been waiting for Noel’s story ever since he was first introduced and Illusion on Ice did not disappoint, Maisie is absolutely the one for Noel and I loved the story line. Although this is not a particularly long story, Ms.Grey managed to pack an awful lot into it none the less.

Fate works in mysterious ways when Noel and Maisie meet in of all places Sweden. Noel is there to play hockey for Team USA whilst Maisie has been abandoned and left to fend for herself by her extremely selfish mother. Their connection to one another is instant and both feel as though they may have finally met “the one”. As their relationship intensifies, Maisie is constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop, knowing that for her life is never as good as it appears.

I fell hard and fast for Noel, what a swoon worthy hunk of a man he is. I loved his friendship with the players and the way he cares for and about Maisie is totally swoon worthy. Maisie on the other hand I wanted to dislike as I just knew she was going to hurt Noel, however I really couldn’t help but feel for her and the circumstances she found herself in.; her mother on the other hand I had no time for.

There was so much fun and the chemistry between Noel and Maisie was off the charts. The blossoming romance was so sweet and honestly I really wanted them both to get the happily ever after they both deserved.

However, what will happen when Noel learns that everything he thinks he knows about Maisie is an illusion? Can two people form opposite sides of the fence make it?

One click and find out. I loved this book. .

Illusion on Ice

Maisie is in a crappy situation and looking for a way out. Noel Is looking for something more. They run into each other and sparks fly from the start. What started as lies and deception turns into something so much more

Noel💘Maisie! Wonderful Story & Narration🎧

I enjoyed everything about this great book, S.R. Grey’s writing style, the storylines and characters she created as well as the wonderful narration. This is the 7th book of the “Boys of Winter” series, but my first and it can be enjoyed completely as a stand-alone. I enjoyed it so much I added the rest of the series to my wish list. This story had my attention right from the start and held it to the end. Maisie, the female lead, is left to fend for herself in Stockholm, Sweden after her mother takes off to travel Europe with her wealthy boyfriend. She left Maisie in his luxurious hotel room with funds or money to return back to the US. Maisie needs to come up with the funds to get her home, so she masterminds a plan to befriend someone who can help her out. She finds out the US hockey team are in the playoffs and are staying at the same hotel. She heads to the bar to find a target. Noel is walking in the lobby when Maisie catches his eye and he follows her to the bar and then strikes up a conversation with her. The two hit it off and Maisie’s plan does not come off easy for her, she struggles with crossing lines and being dishonest, which is something I loved about her. Noel is such a nice guy, understanding and has such a huge heart. I loved how their story played out, from the getting to know you phase to when Maisie thought she was doing the right thing to what happens when they return to the states. This is an enjoyable sweet romance, there is never a dull moment here, there is drama, emotions, some fun times as well as heartfelt ones. S.R. Grey, thank you for another great and entertaining story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

I listened to the Audible edition, Avie Paige is a wonderful narrator and voice performer. She brings these characters to life, gives each their own voice and personality and a whole lot of heart. She does an amazing job projecting the emotions of the characters in to her performance. She is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for this great listen 🎧

Illusion on Ice was a cute story of fighting for love, learning to love and accept yourself and your flaws, and finding your strength in honesty. This is the first book I've read by S.R. Grey and I thought it was super cute. I had no problem following the book and the characters, despite this being the seventh book in the series. I'd like to read the first six. Illusion on Ice was a fun listening escape, well-written and super sweet. I really likes Noel but maybe not Maisie very much. I'd like to have seen more of their HEA to see more of her redemption.

I received this audiobook for free from Audiobook Obsessions. This is my honest and voluntary review.

3.5 Stars

I liked Noel, but Maisie was just ok. Without any real connection to the main characters, I had a hard time getting into this story. This is my first book in the Boys of Winter series so maybe I would have liked it better if I had started with book 1 first although they are all standalones so I'm not sure if it would have made a difference. Avie Paige did a good job narrating this story.

Fantastic storyline!

I feel like I should first mention that I have not read or listened to the first 6 books in this series. I obviously know I’m missing some of the secondary character’s stories and their background. While I’d love to listen to them at some point, I don’t feel like not knowing their stories took away from me enjoying the story of Noel and Maisie. Don’t tell anyone, but I’ve never read SR Grey before. I obviously know now that I am missing out! Her writing is incredible. I really felt their story and their immediate attraction that quickly went deeper than surface level. I feel confident that I’ll be watching for more books from this author but especially books that belong to the Boys of Winter series.

Avie Paige is a narrator that I’ve listened to with a few other audiobooks. I like her voice and her narration just fine. I do prefer her dual narrations more than her just heading up a double POV audiobook. That being said, I didn’t dislike the narration due to a female narrating both POV’s. It’s just not my preference but even saying that, I really enjoyed the story itself so the narration was just kind of reading to me instead of bringing the story to life for me.

Illusion on Ice

This book reminds me so much of a Cinderella story! Stuck in a place so far away from home with no idea of how you will get back and yet luckily enough to find your perfect other half. Another great book with fantastic narration!

Enjoyed it

Illusion On Ice by S.R.Grey is the 7th book in the Boys of Winter series. This hockey sports romance was a sweet easy read with some bumps along the way and I enjoyed it. I loved Noel, he was such a caring, generous sweetheart, Maise took a little longer to warm up to as I thought she was immature, but she did grow on me in the end.
The audiobook was narrated by Avie Paige. I enjoyed her narration and her portrayal of the characters were distinguishable.

Illusion on Ice

Overall I enjoyed the story but I think that Maisie was a bit too immature and I really felt that what she did was underhanded (although what would the story be without the deception). I thought Noel was a sweet character and completely lost for Maisie but Avie Paige's male voice could have been a bit better. Her pacing was well done and the characters were very distinguishable.

No Illusion Here, The Narrator Missed The Shot On This One.

I’ve really enjoyed all the other books in this series except this one. However, I don’t fault the writer and the story she’s written, it was the narrator. Her voice just made the story sound so cheesy I can’t really give an accurate review. I really had a hard time wanting to finish this audiobook because I was so disappointed. I would recommend reading this one rather than listening to the audiobook.

Good hockey romance

The book started with showcasing how and why Maisie was stuck in Sweden. (Poor Maisie). Noel saw Maisie at the bar and felt insta-lust. Maisie initially saw Noel as a means to an end but ended up falling for him. The story was cute- low angst generally. I wasn’t a huge fan of what Maisie did which made it difficult for me to identify with her, even though I get why she thought she needed to do so. But generally, I thought she was a pretty immature character throughout the book. However, Noel was a wonderful, sweet character who made the book a fun listen.

I received this book from #AudioBookObsessionReviewer. In terms of the audiobook, Avie Paige did a good job but it was a dual POV and it would have been better if there was a man playing Noel. I didn't particularly gel with her male voice but I think overall, she did an admirable job. Overall, she had good pacing and it was easy to tell when she was playing Noel vs Maisie.
