Amazing just ditch Allen!

These have to be one of my favorite procedural crime books. Definitely a smart choice to trade out the original author. The new one could use a little better inflection and not so monotone but she works well enough. What I love the most is that we go on a realistic journey to come to a solution. Not the typical person who done it from left field that makes no sense or all the other unrealistic and overreaching habits this genre tends to fall into. What annoys me is Kate has a clear passion but every book we hear Allen (who the author makes sound like an insecure need) one minute saying he’s proud of her then “but I don’t know how long I’m gonna be okay with this”. The constant circle of this is exhausting. Then he expects her to stop because he is retiring and she thinks he’s “so sweet” because he “allows” her to work? What!! If this was a crime novel we would be listening to a 65 year old detective whose wife doesn’t get a choice. It’s called life- but when it’s the woman the expectations completely change? My partner would never hang my job over my head like that- ever. Nor would I do that to him. Also most people do not retire in their 50’s. Keep Kate strong! Please!!! We need more positive example! Or start a new series with Kristin!

Series gets better with each new book...

If She Hid is and excellent procedural. This series continues to get better with each new addition to the series. While the series started out very light this book takes on a more solemn feel. The writing is good and the characters are familiar to me (since this is book four) however this series is generally plot based without a whole lot of character development.
The publisher's summary gives a very good overview so I don't want to give the story away by expounding on it. The protagonist is a 56 year old retired FBI agent who has returned to work on an as needed basis.
Quinn Francis does an excellent job narrating.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Finally !

I've read several Detective/murder mystery books from this author, and this is the first one th at didnt do the tired "You're off the case!" bit that he seems to do in most of his writing. this one feels more like book one, but with established characters. my favorite one this far! liked the voice actress, but gave her 4 stars for several times where she stpped and reread sentences.

Suspenseful

The story is interesting. But the synopsis gives away the secret twist of the story. Not cool. The narrator Quinn is hard to listen to as she repeats and corrects herself and goes back and rereads lines. No one bothered to edit this audiobook it seems. She also mispronounces and invents words = yearses?? (What is Yearses?) It’s supposed to be 3 YEARS. I’m sorry for the harsh review. I listen to a lot of books and this one seems recorded in someone’s basement or home made studio.

It was ok

Felt a little predictable but I enjoyed not having Kate go against her supervisor again (that was getting old). Not a bad story but it kept skipping through the whole reading. Disappointed since this was my first book using a paid credit.

They’re getting weaker

I found this to me my least favorite Kate Wise story so far. It just didn’t seem to make sense, the stakes felt low, her partner was pushed way into the background. And everything felt really fast. Often a book needs to be cut shorter; this one needed to be fleshed out.

I may not continue with the series after this one :(
