Light listening/good story...
I enjoy the Kate Wise mysteries. These are plot driven with interesting if not well developed characters. The protagonist is a retired FBI agent who was called back in on a case following a year of mandatory retirement. The case was related to one she had worked on and had expertise in. Once solved she was invited back on a contingency basis. She only works on cases they feel her knowledge will increase the the FBI’s chance to solve it quickly. This is one of those cases.
Quinn Francis does an excellent job narrating.
Recommended light listening. This book is great for breaking up heavier more detailed books.

I've Read All Five
I read the four previous Kate Wise mysteries on my Kindle. For something different, I listened to this on Audible. I have to admit, I just didn't care for the narrator. I don't feel like she read fluently. Her phrasing and emphasis on words seemed odd. She also over pronounced words making her sound unnatural. I've never heard the word been pronounced like 'bean.' It was very distracting. I don't know if the Riley Paige series has the same narrator, but I'm sticking with actually reading those rather than listening.

Kate Wise is great
... however, facts about her age, her family and her job change from book to book - makes me think that
to many people are writing the book and no one proofs the final story-
And, the narrator mispronounces “been” as bean over and over. That too is annoying.
Those things said, the series is great and always engrossing!

story had potential
Kate's thought process was not believable. Demarco's homosexuality seemed like an agenda. the scene where they took down the killer was seriously flawed and unbelievable

Repetitive Series
All of the books in this series are the same - just a different murder plot. Same struggle between “Kate” and her boss, Kate and her daughter and Kate and her boyfriend. Also there is also always a struggle with the killer to which her partner saves her life Or vice versa
