From New York Times bestselling author Brian Freeman comes a gripping psychological thriller about a woman haunted by terrifying memories—of someone else’s life.

On the Fourth of July, Hallie Evers dies at a rooftop party in Las Vegas.

Hours later, she wakes up in the hospital, disoriented but alive. Why can’t she find the doctor who revived her? Why does her head feel crowded and loud? Why do her memories feel both foreign and familiar? Her self-doubt spirals into crippling paranoia.

Hallie knows that mental illness runs in her family—her mother suffered from delusions that led to an early death. But now even Hallie’s dreams are fraught with details that seem like more than imagination—vivid images of a city she remembers but has never visited in her life. As she embarks on a cross-country search for answers, Hallie catches glimpses of what feel like another person’s memories. It’s a dark, horrifying, tragic vision...of someone else’s murder.

But is any of it real?

I liked how the book began. A woman begins to see another woman's memories in her own. She feels obsessed with the idea of solving these memories and how they got in her head in the first place and what they mean. Okay, suspend belief, good premise for a story, outside of the box, so far so good.

The problem was towards the end, as the story was resolving itself. The protagonist becomes whiney, annoyingly so. The antagonist's issues devolve into a 'I was bullied as a child now I'm a serial killer' mentality. The idea of a parent condoning this is pretty revolting; I found myself annoyed and disliking everyone by the end of the story.

Started good, devolved into whiney and unlikeable

Refreshing, riveting switch from the usual mystery/thriller format. If you love pondering future tech possibilities + mysteries as much I do, you'll find this book well worth a listen (and/or credit).

Different. Unusual. I *really* like this book!

I loved all the twists and circles in this book. Freeman writes plot twists like no one else. I’m obsessed. The narrator gives all make characters a strange accent. I’m actually curious if she’s not a native English speaker…? But her female voices are great. So glad I got this book. It gripped me from start to finish. Unputdownable.
