Publisher's summary

The power of suggestion does wonders for the heart in an absolutely captivating romantic comedy by Sariah Wilson, the bestselling author of The Chemistry of Love.

Hypnotist Savannah Sinclair is known for helping clients overcome their deep-rooted issues, from anxiety to addiction. But her nontraditional approach also attracts plenty of skeptics—including her high school nemesis and rival, Mason Beckett, who just so happens to be the boy who broke her heart.

Mason’s life hasn’t gone according to plan. His latest novel was a flop, and the only gig he can land is writing a scathing exposé of his hometown hypnotist, Savannah. But in order to write an authentic article, he has to be a willing participant. Hypnosis is the last thing he expected: he’s shedding his negative nature and opening himself up to new experiences…and when a fire alarm interrupts their session, Mason walks out into the real world entranced and sporting a sunny disposition and a tendency to say yes.

Hypnotized Mason is fearless, revealing things he’s never told a soul, acting completely out of character, and leading Savannah on a frantic chase to keep him safe. He likes his new self. The problem is, so does Savannah. She can’t fall in love with a man who’s in a trance, but can she keep him still long enough to get him to snap out of it?

Narrator is fab, main character is an idiot for 3 too many chapters.

Gah. Overall, I think Sariah Wilson writes sweet stories. They're great when life is a little too stressful or I need a break from sci-fi/fantasy. However, most of her books fall prey to heroines who are rather emotionally stunted for about 3-4 too many chapters. We get it. Personal growth takes time. But snogging a dude (who is usually insanely patient) while dithering about EVERYTHING or making terrible, illogical choices in every single book...I end up skipping entire chapters and not losing the thread of the story. It's a bummer. Still a nice listen, but overall, just an OK book.

Annoying personality

I could not relate to the personalities, and they were way too whiny for me

God love story with some laughs

Narrator was great. Wish it was longer but it was a great book. Looking forward to other titles from this author now.

Young adult fiction

The story wasn’t bad I just think it was meant for young adults. I just felt while listening to it that the main character was very immature and needed to quit being annoying.

Loved this story

It’s such a sweet story of learning about yourself while holding on to the person made just for you. I loved Mason and Savannah.

just ok

I've read several of Sarah Wilson's books and this was just ok. I couldn't get into the characters. I don't know if it was the narrator or the book itself.

What could have been great but wasn’t

A bit disappointing. While the blurb told me this was about chasing a “yes man” after hipnosis, this was nothing like it. Yes this event happens but that is only minor event and not really what the book is about. In fact I don’t know what the book is about. At first I was engaged, the rom-com humor and style was promising but sadly didn’t deliver…
Tropes:
- enemies to lovers: honestly one sided and there was literally no reason for it to be
- the whole hipnosis “yes man” thing, really could have been exploited and it was not, it lasted very little and not at all what it could have been
- same with the article to “destroy” her thing, this was barely a mention
- second chance romance? Honestly was the only part that was accurate, but very undeveloped

The inner monologue of the FMC was exhausting. What an annoying person. Insecure, mean, rude, immature… what kind of “therapist in training” does not communicate her feelings and tries to solve the obstacles with the people around her? This one. She is a hipnosis therapist who is studying to be an more orthodox therapist. And she: doesn’t communicate, slut shames her best friend behind her back, has a grudge for years but never talked about the incident with the person that allegedly offended her and doesn’t wants to, even though this event traumatized her for her adult life..
I’m giving it 2 stars bc I liked the MMC and the book had its moments here and there, and honestly I’ve read worse.
However, narration was excellent. So points for that.
