A Nail Biter!

What an enjoyable second book! This is a great suspenseful tale which did not turn out like I thought it would. I love it when that happens! I enjoyed meeting all the characters. They were well done and lively.

This is my second book by this author for me and they just keep getting better. I did listen to this on audio. Gary Bennett does an excellent job narrating. His gruff voice of Silence reminds me of Clint Eastwood’s voice.

Great Fun

Well written, well paced, well structured, suspenseful, and action packed. A thoroughly satisfying installment of this outstanding series.

Despite the brevity of the novel and the significant action/suspense elements, Erik Carter finds time and tone to explore and humanize his characters and create vivid environments. It's not all break-neck speed, instead paced with quiet precision to make the entire listen a pleasure.

The book within the book was a clever touch.

Gary Bennett's narration hits the feel of the novel just right, as always.

Purchased Book 3 immediately upon finishing Book 2.

Fell Short…

Okay book. Story was a little weak. Narrated did a good job. I like the character and will try the next book (#3) and hope it measures up to book #1 before I give up on this series.

A Happy Surprise

I received this book free for an honest review and having participated in several freebies, I started listening with trepidation. I am a first time listener to both Erik Carter and narrator, Gary Bennett. Gary's narration was outstanding. He was easy to listen to and get lost in the story telling.

The book plot was engrossing and held interest all the way through. I won't go into the plot line since you can read that above, but I was on the edge of my seat in this book.

I didn't want to like Silence - but I did. So much so, in fact, I'm going to go buy book 1 and catch up on his story! He grows on you with his raspy voice and sense of honour.

Definitely listen to this book!!!!

Silence can and does kill

Silence Jones’ new mission is to find the person responsible for the disappearance and eventual murder of a new bride. The woman had a point to prove and did so by investigating a deeply dark group. However, like most things that Jones becomes embroiled in, nothing is cut and dry. Jones finds himself neck-deep in deception, murder, and more.

The author, Erik Carter has created a vigilante assassin character that everyone should hate, but one cannot help but admire and at times feel a little sympathy towards. The life of Silence is rich in adventure and action, misdirection, intrigue, and secret groups. The touch of detail about Silence’s voice adds to his character’s depth. Carter weaves a story around this character showing his flaws, strengths, and struggles. Carter artfully inserts a few plot twists along the way until the end.

The narrator, Gary Bennett gives a strong performance endearing listeners to Silence’s deep and gravelly voice. When one must perform a character who says one-to-two-word sentences, it takes skill to project all emotion into them to have the strongest and most meaningful impact. Bennett’s voice is smooth when needed and he provides unique voices to all. Bennett is definitely versatile.

This is a series that will keep you coming back for more. An easy listen that draws you in and keeps you there until the last word is spoken.

Once again, this author and narrator receive the Audiobook Reviewer’s Choice Award. This award is given only to those books that deserve higher than the standard five-star ranking system.

The production and quality of this audiobook were perfect. I encountered no issues; it was clear and crisp.

Silence Fights For Another Great Cause

I was so excited to start this one. Especially having just finished reading the other two books in the series - I knew what I was getting into, I just didn't know exactly how things were going to play out. Hush Hush was another one of those books that absolutely flew by. Now that I know who Silence is - I was able to jump into this one head-first and fully enjoy who he was and how he operates.

I think some of the scenes in Hush Hush were funny to me because of the way people reacted. I can imagine reacting the same way (though hopefully, I would be on the good side and not the one he's fighting). I love the fear that the bad guys end up having once they realize that he's real and not just some myth that the criminal underground had running around. A scene that really spoke to how good Silence is was the scene in the parking garage, specifically towards the end of the scene when he makes eye contact with the person that's been tailing him. That person went from being super confident in their ways to scared in an instant.

Hush Hush was a really good story on top of the rest of it. Silence had to help someone that might not have even deserved help, but he works for the victim, not the family around them. I found the scenes where he was torn because of personal reasons and because of the way certain people reacted around him the most fascinating parts of this story. It shows his human side and proves that he's not a vendetta/killing machine just yet.

This one was shorter than the first book but it did not feel like it. Other than I felt like I was able to finish it a little faster - the story was there, and I wasn't left feeling like I was missing details or even that it should have been longer. It was the perfect length to tell this specific story.

Add in the excellent narration by Gary Bennett and you have a book that jumped off of the pages. Bennett is able to become Silence and the few words that he does speak in his scary voice are perfect. I think if he went for the actual tone/sound that Silence makes - it would be too much for an audiobook. I think he struck the perfect balance of sounding like the character and being able to listen/understand in audiobook form. Not a lot of narrators can strike that balance but Bennett nails it.

plenty of twists and turns

Silence Jones is a man of few words, thanks to an injury that makes speech painful, but that doesn’t stop him from seeking justice. Carter hooked me from the start as a young woman flees into the alligator infested swamps as danger follows her.

Jones is asked to take on the case by the woman’s husband. He needs answers. He believes she is dead, but her father isn’t willing to pursue it. It’s a complicated case, as Jones soon discovers. Amber is the daughter of a retired and powerful/crooked cop. Silence learned she was investigating a criminal group that runs the city.

Twist, turns, confessions and Jones’ signature investigative skills made for an interesting case that held me captive. Silence finds himself in danger, but fearless and ruthlessly roots out the culprits.

I loved the side threads of Jones’ life, like his neighbor and the cat. Even though he is an anti-hero and works outside of the law, Silence has his own rules and you can’t help but appreciate him. I have a feeling if we shared coffee, he’d sit there silently while I confessed all my darkest secrets.

Fans of suspenseful thrillers will love this series. I recommend listening to the audiobooks. Gary Bennett has captured Silence Jones from his mannerisms to scratchy voice. We spend time in Silence’s head and Bennett brings him to life. His pacing and tone enhance this fast-paced, engaging thriller.
