Publisher's Summary

Deputy Mattie Cobb is in a dark place and has withdrawn from Cole Walker and his family to work on issues from her past. When she and her K-9 partner, Robo, get called to track a missing junior high student, they find the girl dead on Smoker's Hill behind the high school, and Mattie must head to the Walker home to break the bad news. But that's only the start of trouble in Timber Creek because soon another girl goes missing - and this time it's one of Cole's daughters.

Knowing that each hour a child remains missing lessens the probability of finding her alive, Mattie and Robo lead the hunt while Cole and community volunteers join in to search everywhere, but to no avail. It seems that someone has snatched all trace of the Walker girl from their midst, including her scent. Grasping at straws, Mattie and Robo follow a phoned-in tip into the dense forest, where they hope to find a trace of the girl's scent and to rescue her alive. But when Robo does catch her scent, it leads them to information that challenges everything they thought they knew about the case.

Mattie and Robo must rush to hunt down the kidnapper before they're too late in Hunting Hour, the third installment in critically acclaimed author Margaret Mizushima's exhilarating mystery series.

Fantastic K9 Series for any Dog or Horse Lover!

This is one of my favorite K9 Series! I do not want to include any spoilers so rather than describing the Hunting Hour, which you can find elsewhere, I will address the series as a whole. All of the books are great and have my highest recommendation!

The plots are realistic, the writing is good, the characters are well developed and likable, and the narration is wonderful. Hunting Hour is the 3rd book in the series. The characters have remained consistent, and each story has been narrated by Nancy Wu. I highly recommend reading the series in order. Each book is easy to follow, enjoyable to listen to and unfortunately goes by way too fast. I'm always so sad when I finish one of Mizushima's books and I find myself wishing she could write with super speed!

The series is set in a small Colorado town. Each character has his or her own problems so nobody is to perfect to be unlikable or unbelievable. The series stars police K9 Robo and his police handler Maggie. Another consistent figure in the books is Cole, the local Veterinarian and his two daughters, Sofie and Angie. He has horses and often treats horses in his vet clinic so for any horse lover this will be a plus.

Nancy Wu does a wonderful job narrating. Her voice is unique and at first I wasn't sure about it but after about 30 minutes into the first book I realized I love it. She can handle male and female character voices as well as children's voices. The quality of the recording is professional.

I highly recommend listening to the entire series in the following order:
1. Killing Trail
2.Stalking Grounds
3. Hunting Hour

Wow.

I've listened to good books before, but never have I listened to one all in one day...I haven't done that since I was a kid, reading.
Excellent character development, story, and delivery (Wu hoo!)

I immediately downloaded another Mizushima book....but I'd better eat something before I turn it back on...

Another one to listen to

Another interesting listen. Nancy Wu is lovely to listen to as you follow the story. Her voice distinguished the characters easily even as the voices she uses aren’t very different. A talent for sure.
Maddie is going through personal issues and makes some mistakes that have you worry for her. The mystery is good and honestly, the best one. I like how it seems like real life and not Sherlock police mysteries.
On to the next one...

Good but the others were better

I continue to appreciate the characters and the terrific development of their characters.
The plot line is solid and the writing is very good.
My only complaint about this book is that the beginning seemed a bit plodding with an excessive number of scenes presented to 'describe' the family dynamics. I kept wondering when the story line would move forward.
Otherwise I'm pleased that I spent the credit It's worth it especially if you enjoyed the previous books in the series.

Promoting RAWHIDE Chews

Good story, I always like this author and narrator. BAD CHOICE TO PROMOTE RAWHIDE CHEWS!!! She mentions them no less than a dozen times at the end of the story. The author did her research into working dogs (ie. water before tracking improves scenting ability of dog). She did not however research basic dog health...RAWHIDE CHEWS ARE THE NUMBER ONE CAUSE OF MORTALITY IN DOGS (DUE TO INTESTIONAL BLOCKAGE). RAWHIDE CHEWS KILL DOGS AND SHOULD BE OUTLAWED!!! Also, they should not be promoted in books.

A touching story of murder by accident

It's exciting and keeps one listening way into the nights some terrifying moments till the conclusion and somehow sad that the murderer is mentally living in the past, bu thats my view.

steady

The characters are developing slowly and there's a feeling that the stereotyping of them is overdone. The main characters inability to talk about feeling and self doubt is annoying as their immaturity does not fit with their work lives. The series is enjoyable but not a must listen.

Feelgood heart-warming crime thriller

Pity about the narration, very narrow range of voices, especially the male ones.
But the storyline of deputy sheriff and her tracking dog finding the kidnapped daughter of the vet is captivating light listening.
Nothing too deep and meaningful, but a deft touch of an engrossing plot, vivid setting and a so far small cast of core characters that one is happy to invest in.

Spoiled by the narrator

I struggled with this book, the narrator’s voice was annoying and the change for characters was so awful it was funny. The story itself was good but I couldn’t warm to the main character.
