Publisher's Summary

The first book in a bold new fantasy romance series by New York Times best-selling author Kerrelyn Sparks.

Luciana grew up on the Isle of Moon, hidden away because of her magical powers. But when her father arrives, he offers her a choice: remain on the island or return with him and marry the Beast of Benwick in order to save their legacy - and her father's life.

Lord Leofric, the Beast of Benwick, has not been touched since he was a child. Born with the power to harness lightning, he is a danger to everyone he touches. When he meets his betrothed, he expects a loveless, lonely marriage...until he discovers she's vastly more powerful than he realized. But is she strong enough to withstand his touch?

If they can survive, their love will alter the future of the kingdom. But will their extraordinary powers cost them everything?

Wonderful tale, narrator did not do the story much justice.

This was such a wonderful book, great, great story. It really deserve five stars. I give it four because the narrator was so bland. Miss Tanner is a very unimaginative narrator. She certainly gets five stars for taking such a wonderful, beautiful book and making it sound as bland as boil potatoes. Since I am a fan of Ms. Kerrelyn Sparks, I decided to suffer my boiled potato and listened to the whole book. It would have been a very fun ride with another narrator, one who will make this book come alive. I sincerely hope that another narrator reads the other upcoming books in this wonderful series. Narrators like Heather Wilds, Hotler Graham and Robert Petkoff, just to mention a few.

Story good - narrator makes me crazy.

I'm not really certain that I've noticed an author using the word "grimaced" quite so often, but for some reason, Ms Sparks uses it at least once or twice in every chapter. And the narrator gave it the most twisted mispronunciation imaginable - gri-MASTE. I could understand if it was an unfamiliar word, but grimace if fairly common. "Tatiana's grin turned into a gri-MASE." He gri-MASTE." Annoying.
Story - not bad, interesting new world - I can see this being worth following, if someone finds a new narrator.

Great Escape

This book tells a whirlwind tale that is intriguing and whimsical. The world here is sort of renaissance, and the narrator hits all the accents as I feel they should be. For a bit, I thought it was Dame Judy Dench narrating, lol. The story moves along well, the characters are fully formed, and you can really get into their heads. If you like period pieces, stories that involve mystery around a girl with supernatural overtones, or submersing yourself into a mythical world, I recommend this book. I look forward to the next installment!

Kept using and mispronouncing "grimaced"

The story was pretty good, and probably deserved a better score, but the woman reading it kept, muspronouncing the word "grimaced". This drew attention to how very often the word was used and distracted from the flow.

So much grimacing!

The story was great, but the word "grimaced" was used way more than normal and it stood out because of the narrator's accent pronouncing it grim ACED. It was really annoying after a short while.

such a long and wordy book!

it helped me to fall asleep, which was a bonus, I really wasn't that into it, it did have some humorous parts, not really a romantic book but it was ok, more like a adventure

Great romantic pair!!

Any additional comments?

I ordered this book on a whim and really enjoyed a non-whiny heroine and a hero who is not over the top alpha. Guess I'll be getting the other books in the series LOL.

Ho-hum story, terrible narration

Initially, I was so excited to read this book and the series, but you guys, it's really not very well written. I think Lucciana "winced" about 27 times in the book. If she wasn't wincing, she was grimacing. There are certainly other adjectives the author could've chosen, right? The idea of the book is great – I love a fantasy setting with enhanced beings, dragons, prophecies, etc. – but the writing isn't good enough to keep up with the storyline.

Also, this narrator's performance was awful. She barely performed different voices and her line deliveries were stilted and strained, with strage emphasis on the wrong words within a sentence. She made certain characters so shrill, I was forced to constantly change the volume on my phone or in the car.

I see that she narrates the next book in the series, which means I'll be reading it on my Kindle and definitely not listening to it.

Great start to a new series

Loved the new characters, lots of danger and backstory to make the actions work. Can't wait for the next one.
