Faith, family, hard work, and second chances are at the core of every great American story, and Jenny Doan’s story is just that.

In Jenny Doan's new memoir, How to Stitch an American Dream, listeners will discover the behind-the-scenes success story of the Missouri Star Quilt Company and Jenny’s remarkable journey to overcome hardship, claim the abundance of family, and ignite the power of giving - all while revitalizing a small town along the way.

Over the last decade, the Doan family business, the Missouri Star Quilt Company in tiny Hamilton, Missouri, has grown from Jenny’s corner shop - with one quilting machine and two bolts of fabric for sale in the back - to become the largest supplier of pre-cut quilting fabric in the headquarters of Jenny’s world-famous YouTube tutorial videos.

Jenny is now giving her fans, the business world, and moms of all ages (and grandmas too!) what they’ve been asking for: the full story of her journey, from her humble beginnings as a homeschooling mom, to founding MSQC in her 50s, through the remarkable success and inspiration she’s so well-known for today. In this book, you’ll learn:

  • How she and her beloved husband, Ron, raised seven children on a shoestring budget - and had fun doing it
  • How, after a string of bad luck, the family made a prayer-based decision to leave California behind and start over again in rural Missouri, even though they had no place to live, no jobs lined up, and no idea how they were going to make it
  • How Jenny, Ron, and their children worked side by side to patch together a family home out of a crumbling shell of a farmhouse
  • And how their faith, hard work, and generosity not only carried them through the hard times, but led directly to the success of the Missouri Star Quilt Company

How to Stitch an American Dream will make you laugh, cry, and say “bless your heart”.

A Must Listen for any MSQC Fan

I have been a fan of Jenny’s for years. She taught me how to quilt and I loved hearing her whole story. This book is so wonderful in the way that it simply sounds like she is telling a story to a friend. I laughed, I cried and absolutely loved this book.

heartwarming and inspiring

Hearing Jenny share her life and her family's trials and triumphs was truly heartwarming. I had smiles and tears throughout her book. Her bounty of life experiences passed to us readers had a great impact on me. Americana in the present showing us kindness and sharing is truly in Jenny's DNA. I'm taking away from this book an intension to pay kindness forward ... to learn or remember lessons on hope, to be thankful for each day, to keep family close to us, to find joy in ouŕ lives, and to have faith, which in todays world is fround upon.
Congratulations on all your hard work, congratulations to the family that saw potential in MSQC. Thanks for sharing your joy of teaching quilting to a multitude of generations including myself. you inspire me

A wonder story from the heart

An amazing story about an amazing success story. Jenny shares her faith, but doesn’t preach. Shares the incredible success of MSQC but doesn’t brag. I absolutely loved it.

Beautiful story

I was at The First Ever Doan Girls Retreat in February of 2020 so I had a chance to learn from and meet Jenny, Natalie, Misty and Ron in person. I knew part of her story but not all of it. It was so interesting to learn how her faith really sustained her and her family. They truly are a wonderful family. I really enjoyed listening to Jenny read her story - it felt like listening to an “old friend!”

I’ve followed Jenny Doan since she started You Tube videos. As a quilter I guess she’s my super hero. Even if you don’t make quilts, her life story is one that you may have lived or you can learn from. Her gentle spirit shines thru as she reads. I highly recommend. Thank you Jenny!

What A Story!

What an amazing story of a woman that raised an awesome family in spite of so many challenges, proving time after time that God hears and answers every prayer. Jenny Doan is one of the most positive and delightful people I know! Even if you don't know a thing about quilting, you will love this story. Visiting Missouri Star Quilt Company is on my bucket list, can't wait to see the city that was made famous with love and quilts!
