Publisher's summary

Finn

When the vampire stalking me sent me a letter, I was prepared for my new life with the man I love to get thrown into chaos. But as the days stretch on and nothing happens, I become determined not to allow that monster to rule my life and decide that Marcus and I will move on.

We can’t always allow the past to haunt us. If that includes pestering Marcus and harassing my fellow detectives, they’d better learn to love it because I’m not going anywhere, even if they like to remind me I’m the only human working in a department filled with vampires.

But Marcus loves me for who I am, even if he’s not crazy about the cute pet names I call him like McBitey. Being with him is more than I could have dreamed, and even with the trials thrown in our way, he never fails to make me smile.

Marcus

When Finn joined the VRC, I never expected how everything would change. Now that he’s the brightest part of my days, I’m unsure of how I existed without him. Before Finn and I can settle into our new life together, we’re called in as lead detectives when a body is found in the river, and the case soon hits closer to home than we anticipated.

I want to be by Finn’s side to keep him safe, but at the same time, Finn’s fighting for the freedom he’s always wanted after being forced to live a life of fear. What I do know is that my future is with Finn, no matter what happens.

How to Elude a Vampire is the second in the VRC series and contains a display of manly prowess that doesn't go as desired, reluctant bonding with a new pet, interfering with a snarky Russian's love life, misuse of office supplies, a vampire with a killer fashion sense but very little game, a total lack of ancient kung fu powers, a feisty human who almost always gets his way, and the possessive vampire who adores him.

amazing as always

It's review time 🎧
Warning ⚠️ : not a standalone, Vampire romance, mm romance.

“Can your tiny little legs keep up?” Karsyn asks.
Marcus waves at him like he’s going to defend me.
“Shh, Karsyn. He doesn’t like it when you make fun of his speed. You’re like a cheetah, baby,” Marcus encourages.

Narrator score🎧 ; Michael is amazing as always, i just adore his talent so very much.

“Ah, makes sense, you’re so manly your eyes probably have no idea what tears are. Are they rejecting your body? Are they confused? Hurry up, Grandpa. Ooh, you know the whole Daddy thing? I don’t need a Daddy, I got a Grandpa.”

Level of steam🔥: its not about s** at all, this book is all about banter and a full on story. And even when they are getting to it, its full of fun and bante, and I love it.

“There is something wrong with this family and I love it!” Marcus says as he smacks his leg.

Level of anxiety and sadness0😱😢: yes its a comedy. But somehow this author can bring you a serious story in to the comedy and she did it amazingly.

"I do have a weakness for popcorn. Its better to coated blood instead butter."

The book itself📖: Alice out done her self with this book. She brought us a great fantasy, with a wonderful detective story. I love that she keeps a united front with this story, they are a solid couple through it all. And I adore it. It was a wonderful book, I can't wait to the 3rd and 4th books on audible. 😍😍😍 because Michael in a Russian accent is the absolute best thing in the world.

Really sappy

I loved the first book even though it occasionally got sappy. This book overdosed on the sappy and cutesy. About midway through I would have been ok if Finn met a brutal, and I mean BRUTAL, end. I wish the author had went into more detail about the creation of vampires. I also hate they introduced a character just to kill him off....there is no emotional investment in his death. They used the word evil to the point of annoyance and everytime I heard it I was pulled out of the story with thoughts of Dr Evil and his pinky to his lips. Last, it would be nice to know why all the vampires love Finn (an annoying , manipulative jerk) and why he made the Doll Maker feel and Marcus (least original vamp name ever) is drawn to his blood. Michael Ferraiuolo is very talented and made the material tolerable.

Much better romance to mystery ratio

It’s a good thing I got the series on sale, or I might have stopped at book 1, which I found to be 90% goofy flirtatious dialogue and 10% story. This book still has the author’s trademark humor, with Marcus as the stodgy straight-man to contrast with Finn, the obnoxious funny guy that I’d hate in real life but adore in fiction. However, all the sappy love barbs worked better for me here because there’s more time spent on the mysteries of who is killing folks and who is stalking Finn, a plot left hanging in book 1.

Books 1 and 2 are really one book. Finn and Marcus may have declared their love in the first book, but the stalker storyline concludes here, along with an explanation for vampiric origins. I still wasn’t feeling the chemistry between Marcus and Finn, so maybe that’s why the several naughty scenes felt kind of awkward. The addition of Claude, Hela, and greater spotlight on Alexei was also welcome.

Book 3 ended up being my favorite in the series, as it gives Alexei his HEA and all of the characters wormed their way into my heart.

Hilarious but not stupid funny. Laughed out loud.

I just can't explain how much I like this series and the perfect humor and the characters. Finn and Marcus are like oil and vinegar and taste so good together. Finn taunts Marcus and Marcus loves Finn for it. Loves him and understands him for who he is.
And did I mention it was hilarious. Straight up, off the cuff hilarious.
And no one narrates it better than Michael F. Perfect partnership.
Ms. Winters, please, please, please give us another dose of Finn and Marcus.

So excited for the second book!

So excited, been waiting on this book to come out. Been waiting to find out who caused the “accident”. Also really want more Carson and De-gray. Wish a spine off of them would happen.

Fantastic

Michael did a fabulous job, as expected, with this 2nd VRC novel. I absolutely loved it and I was on the edge of my test throughout. I can't wait for the 3rd one!
