Every parent wants their child to be happy, and every parent wants to avoid screwing them up (the way their parents did!). But how do you do that? In this absorbing, clever, and warm book, renowned psychotherapist Philippa Perry tells us what really matters and what behavior it is important to avoid - the vital dos and don'ts of parenting. Her approach begins with parents themselves and their own psychological make-up and history - and how that in turn influences one's parenting.

Story
Trust me: the world doesn’t need a bunch of BFFs with beards. I’ve watched men change from confident, decisive, and action-oriented lions to second-guessing, scared-of-their-shadows, don’t-rock-the-boat mice. They don’t feel confident in relationships, work environments - or anywhere. Men are either looking for something or running from something; maybe a bit of both. Well, it’s time to stop running. It’s time to "man up" to face the real issues.

Story
The word "parenting" can cause all sorts of nightmares in your head right now, and if it is, congratulations. No seriously, congratulations! This means you’re not an idiot, and you are aware of the difficult task that lies ahead. Society often tells us dads that our job is to simply provide financial support and leave the caring part to our partners. Well, I’m here to tell you that this is utter nonsense! That whole spiel about how women are biologically attuned to be more nurturing while men are better off running around chucking spears at things? Baloney!

Money - investing, personal finance, and business decisions - is typically taught as a math-based field, where data and formulas tell us exactly what to do. But in the real world people don’t make financial decisions on a spreadsheet. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together. In The Psychology of Money, award-winning author Morgan Housel shares 19 short stories exploring the strange ways people think about money.

Worth the read.
This is a great to read if you are finally at the point in your life, when you're ready to heal. If you're not ready then this book will come across as a spiritual book or repetitive. Before you begin to this; you need to have the mindset to grow and change.

How to be a great Dad with help from Jesus
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Had the author stuck to the topic instead of bring Jesus into the conversation every five minutes he would have had a chance. Also - less anecdotal and more research would have been great.
What was most disappointing about Keith Zafren’s story?
Zafren seems really honest - and I believe he is. Frustratingly, like many books trying to be as long as possible, he feels the need to labour his points over and over and over. Fast forward is your friend.
How could the performance have been better?
This book needed to be edited.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
The book is based on the 3 A's - affirmation, acceptance and affection. While there were too many the stories were nice.
Any additional comments?
This is a great book if you are a Christian and a father or a father and don't care about the religious overtones.
