Publisher's summary

When they took my life, I thought I had nothing left to lose. I was a fool.

The Ouroboros Project was my last chance at salvation, but the new virtual reality was just as bad as the world I’d left. Backroom deals with corrupt nobles, slavery, and murder were all swept under the rug in the pursuit of gold.

Despite everything, I found mercenary life fulfilling, until my guild was attacked. Now, I've got unknown, extremely rich enemies on all sides, a mysterious woman with strange magic and compound eyes, and a guild to save.

They brought their war to my home. It’s only fair I return the favor.

Hive Knight is book one of the Trinity of the Hive series, the first in a dark fantasy series by Grayson Sinclair. Hive Knight features a dystopian real world and a gritty, bleak, and immersive VR world.

Feels like corners were cut

No matter how hard I wanted to give this a 5* I couldn’t. The description indicated a black fantasy which feels like this fell short of.

The story itself has some grim aspects but a combination of story and narration did not give me the feeling of wanting to not pay attention at work to list.

Overall the story is good but not excellent. I’d still likely pick up books 2/3 if they go on sale but won’t go out of my way to buy them at full price

Excellent

This book was ridiculously good. I enjoyed every bit of it. Well written characters, beautiful relationship development, and a character whose growth exceeds my expectations. Do yourself a favor and get this immediately.

rocky start

Overall the book was a good listen. Excellent character development. The world was detailed. Narration was done well. Some different game mechanics.

The start was confusing. The over use of flashbacks muddled the story. It's like I started at the end of book and I was like where's this going.

Go read Ready Player One

the first 8 chapters were depressing and slow.
the background was near pointless. Of the Two forces in his chest, the ice shard was never clarified. the adventure was railroaded. and Why didn't the suicide girl Not come back to life, as the others did? if the AI is smart and causing changes, than why is the issue this big?

Weird start but huge payoff

I liked the book and the start of the book felt weird but it slowly opens up and this style creates a since of understanding. I’m glad the MC isn’t stupid.

I don't remember buying this book, buy I am so happy I did. I might be willing to go gay for Neil Hellegers' voice.

Over all a solid start to a new series.

The only complaint that I have is that the MC's internal dialogue gets some what mixed up with the ongoing situation or conversation that he is currently having. Other than that I really enjoyed the book and the direction it's going.
