What would you do if you had proof a natural disaster was about to happen but it would cost millions to save lives? What would you do to cover your tracks if you did nothing and people died?

When Frank Smiley woke up this morning, he thought today was going to be like any other day. He was wrong! Scott Ross, his friend and fellow scientist, is being framed for murder. Story and narration great.

FYI, I enjoyed the story, but the recording was occasionally popping and cracking. There were was one point where it was hung up and kept repeating it's self. I know it was not my device as I had listen to recordings before and after without a problem.
However, the story was fascinating and hope there is a follow up. The narrator was a perfect choice for the book.

fast paced with lots of action

I went into this book with an open mind...and so glad that I did! While the first chapter was a bit slow (yes, it was laying the groundwork), it soon took off. Geologist Frank Smiley works for Bayside Oil Company, most specifically, assigned to the offshore drilling rigs. His most recent invention will pair well with his former colleague and friend, university professor, Scott Ross. Ross's invention can accurately predict earthquakes. As a matter of fact, Ross predicted an earthquake that destroyed a new housing development that incurred fatalities. Now someone has framed Ross for murder and wants to silence both Ross and Smiley. Will Frank Smiley be able to get to the bottom of the attempts on his life and expose high level corruption?
Very engaging story that is well written, with perfectly paired narration. I look forward to more from this new-to-me author and narrator duo.
I accepted a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Excellent Story

The story moved along at a fast pace, nice character development and backstory. There is a mystery feel to the book that works well and keeps you guessing. There are a couple of parts in the book where editing would have helped, some repeated lines. I thought it was the app at first, but in chapter 12 it happened again and I could see it was the book and not the app. Overall excellent story and narration.

Liked it a lot

Fast paced, depth to the key characters, some elements of whodunnit, and with a few modern life messages. An interesting story line combined with a good fit narrator made this a great listen.

An entertaining story of corporate greed

An enjoyable story with loads of detail and plenty of action throughout. Some technical stuff that went over my head but it did help to draw me in to the book.

The only negative was the narration which, although professionally read by Bill Burrows who has a good voice for it, caused a little confusion due to the lack distinction between character voices. For example I found that Scott & Frank sounded exactly the same, which made following conversations between them difficult. There wasn't enough difference between others to make speech obviously attributable to each character.

All in all though, a good first novel and well worth a read.

I received a free copy of this audiobook either from the author or a promotion or giveaway and am voluntarily writing an honest and unbiased review.

A strong first novel

A great plot, developing characters and an easy to listen to narration. I've read the book as well, but would find this a perfect story to come to on audible without any prior knowledge. I'm looking forward to the next...
