A murder. A missing manuscript. An undying love.

Thisbe Chisholm wants to be a writer. It’s 2007, a time of digital revolution and skyrocketing property prices, but she’s an old-fashioned girl. She longs only to tell the stories written on her heart.

While her best friends, Penny and Jane, and her darling boyfriend, John, seem set for stellar careers in their chosen fields, Thisbe works nights as a hostess at a glitzy harbourside Sydney club - a job she despises but has paid the rent for the last three years since university graduation.

Just as she completes her novel, she is brutally killed at the end of John’s street. Who murdered Thisbe? What will become of her novel?

From the gritty glamour of Bondi Beach to the cold streets of London, here is a tale of tragedy and literary betrayal, of a publishing industry grappling with change and a great love drowning in guilt-wracked grief. Haunting, whimsical and sharply observed, Her Last Words lays bare the truth that, while some crimes might go unpunished among the privileged, words themselves have a way of enduring - and exacting a justice all their own.

Caroline Lee ranks in my top favorite narrators and I was hopeful in listening to her read for an author unknown to me. It was a lovely introduction for me and I’m very much looking forward to listening to more audible books by Kim Kelly. Her characters are so well developed and she keeps a really great pace as the story moves along.

An excellent listening experience

Up until the last couple moments, I was ready to give it a 3 star review for the story. The narration is superb! But in the final few sentences, I was gobsmacked with the most subtle and brilliantly crafted ending I have ever read! I didn't see any other reviews that eluded to this secret treasure, so am thinking only the most discerning readers who enjoy twists and surprises will catch it.

STOP HERE IF YOU DON"T WANT TO KNOW:
*****SPOILER ALERT******

Is a novel within a novel.

Brilliant! Most Will Miss the Subtle Twist!

The story was good except for all the cursing! There must be 250,000 words or more in the English Language. Why do today's authors feel the need to use about 20-30 of the most vulgar ones so often in their dialogue? They are just not necessary. I believe today's contemporary authors have lost the ability of imagination and have become brain dead! If you like a good story, then you may enjoy this book, provided you can stomach all the plentiful f-bombs, and the other vulgar terms the author uses.

Modern authors have become brain dead!
