Publisher's summary

In the quietest town of America, the loudest sound is murder.

With clues from a murdered journalists voice recorder, Jack Winchester sets out to rescue a young woman who has disappeared in a small West Virginia town where five women have washed up dead.

But this is no ordinary town. Cell phones are banned, radios crackle out, and someone patrols the streets in a white van to ensure everyone abides by the rules.

Filled with the trademark suspense, mystery, and emotion that have made Jack Winchester the world's number one antihero, Her Last Breath is Jack's toughest case yet - and an exhilarating thrill ride from start to finish.

Thrilling!

Loved this thrilling listen and I followed along perfectly well as far as the plot for this book. The author brings us an intriguing story that is a nonstop listen and keeps us captivated throughout. This was the first book I've read in the series and while I think it was great as a standalone, I felt like I was missing some things for Jack. There were times where I didnt fully understand why he was doing some things he did and how he came to be in the vigilante that he is; things I suspect were revealed earlier on in the series. Regardless, this was well written and I'd be interested in more by this author.

Excellent narration. The narrator's deeper voice was perfect for this style of thriller and he captured Jack's nature as a character, perfectly.

Very Enjoyable Mystery Action Drama

I received this book for free. I am voluntarily leaving this review and all opinions expressed herein are my own.

This is the ninth book in the Debt Collector series. I have not read any of the prior books and had no trouble following the story or the MC Jack Winchester. However, I would bet there's a lot of character development that I have missed in the eight prior books and I am certainly interested to learn how Jack became the loner vigilante.

Here, Jack receives a call from a journalist in a small town who believes that the deaths of 5 prostitutes are actually murders and she needs Jack's help. Jack is initially reluctant to get involved but decides to make the trip out to meet with the journalist. But, before he gets there, the journalist calls him in a garbled call which sounds like she's in trouble and when he arrives in town, the journalist is missing.

This was a good story with a lot of the small town elements that you might come to expect in this kind of action story. I liked the fact that the journalist was pursuing justice for the deaths of the prostitutes, who are often society's forgotten victims. This story strongly reminded me of the Jack Reacher series -and if you like Reacher, you will like this series. This is a well written story with some good twists, right up until the end. I recommend it.

The narrator, Adam Gold, did a great job. He has a wonderful baritone voice, which to me, embodied what I thought Jack Winchester would sound like.

Great Thriller! Great Narration!

Jon Mills has created a very intriguing character in Jack Winchester. Her Last Breath is such a gripping listen and full of unexpected twists. I love it when I cannot predict things in a book. Add in the mafia hitman element, and things escalate for me in gaining my attention. Jack is a former mob enforcer, and seems like he is wanting to rectify past sins by doing some good deeds. Redemption isn't easy to come by, and this book shows that. Adam Gold performs this book flawlessly. He delivers distinguishable voices for the various characters, and adds the right emotions. He was perfect for narrating this book. I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review. I will definitely listen to more books by this author and narrator. This is a standalone listen, and a continuation of the series. Part of what really appealed to me in this story was the victims. Some people ignore the street people, drug addicts, or prostitutes. They exist, and are missed when something happens to them. I liked how the reporter wanted justice for them, and let it be known with her last breath.

Action packed

This was not my favorite of the series but please don't get me wrong it was an amazing book. There is a lot of action I did not like that Jack got hurt and I kind of wish there would've been more… I don't know more of what but just more. I can't wait for the next one though

Really liked this book!

Thought I'd try a book from this series and started with this one. The plot sounded interesting, and it sure was. Very well written. Also like the narrator, although I had to get used to how he describes actions (in a repetetive pattern of low voice volume to higher, and repeat). He does change this up though in other parts, which makes it tolerable. I'm on to the next one.

Love Jack Winchester !!

This is one of the best in the Jack Winchester series! The publisher's summary gives a very good overview so I will cautiously add to it with out giving too much away.
There's a reporter Jack agrees to help who is looking into the murder of 5 local women. Before Jack even gets into town the reporter disappears. Jack is determined to solve this case even without her.
Within the first few hours Jack is lead to four suspects. The obvious being a group of men running the prostitutes who are found murdered. The others include a minister saving them from the "life" and a cop.
Twist and turns in small town America! But the biggest twist comes at the very end when the police think they have it all tied up. Jack Winchester knows it's not done... you'll have to listen for yourself.
Adam Gold does an excellent job narrating.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Noir fiction at it's finest.........

Her Last Breath is the ninth story in this series about a former mafia hit-man named Jack Winchester. The author introduced just the right amount of Jack's background, so that I had no difficulty diving right into the story. After serving a prison term and somehow severing all ties with the mob, Jack has become a fixer of sorts, traveling the country helping people with problems of the violent variety. Jenna Whitmore, a young reporter investigating the deaths of five prostitutes in her tiny hometown, contacts Jack, requests his help and quickly thereafter disappears. Although not a private detective, Jack employs many of the skills of such and begins searching for Jenna as well as trying to solve the murders. Along the way, he has dealings with an earnest police deputy and a psychotic, drug dealing pimp and his thugs. The author switches points of view between Jack, the deputy and the pimp, leading the reader towards a seemingly obvious resolution. Of course, with sneaky glimpses into the thoughts of the killer, the author always kept me guessing. Sure enough, he throws in a major twist right at the end of the book, but luckily he didn't fool Jack. This story is the perfect combination of mystery, action and drama, and I enjoyed it so much that I plan to read the series from the beginning.

Adam Gold's narration is fantastic. He has a deep, throaty voice that is perfect for Jack's hard as nails attitude. Although the perfect choice for a mostly male cast, Gold differentiated well between the separate male characters and had great tone for the females, too. His narration is another reason I want to listen to the first eight books in the series.

I received a copy of this audiobook at my request in exchange for this honest review.

Wonderful..

This was about a LOT of women that were killed, some raped, some not, some left in the lake and some buried. And all the killers were nuts! Jack was called in by a journalist, but she disappeared before he got to her. This was a great story.

No romance and the F-bomb was used 34 times.

As to the narration: Adam Gold is wonderful!

Jack Winchester goes to West Virginia

Ex Mob hitman turned good guy vigilante Jack Winchester is drawn to a remote West Virginia by a journalist who believes she is hot on the trail of an active serial killer but fears for her own life. Adam Gold narrates this suspense thriller superbly as usual.
