Publisher's Summary

A rising star in the fantasy genre, Michael J. Sullivan has built an ardent following for his Riyria Revelations saga, which draws to its epic conclusion in Heir of Novron.

On the holiday of Wintertide, the New Empire plans to burn the Witch of Melengar and force the Empress into a marriage of their own design. But they didn’t account for Royce and Hadrian finally locating the Heir of Novron—or the pair’s desire to wreak havoc on the New Empire’s carefully crafted scheme.

Heir of Novron contains Wintertide and Percepliquis, books 5 and 6 of Riyria Revelations.

AN EXCELLENT TRILOGY

This was the third book in The Riyria Revelations trilogy. I thoroughly enjoyed this series.
All three books in this series are very long books, so if you are not into that....

Book 1 The Theft of Swords
Is 22 hours and deals with Royce and Hadrian mistakenly getting involved into this adventure

Book 2 Rise of Empire
Is 26 hours and the continuation of the story. I think it was an excellent book, but not as exciting as the first and third.

Book 3 This book, Heir of Novron
Is a long 31 hours, and brings the adventure all together

Sullivan has another series with some of the same characters, but so far I haven't listened.

Very Good

Would you consider the audio edition of Heir of Novron to be better than the print version?

Apples and oranges.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I liked them all in the end.

Which scene was your favorite?

The very last. It should have been predictable, but wasn't.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

You'll have to cast me in it first!

Any additional comments?

A touch of Ambercrombie. A touch of Sanderson. A touch of Salvatore. A touch of Feist.

A fitting conclusion

What made the experience of listening to Heir of Novron the most enjoyable?

The fact that the story continued on without any surprises or unbelievable twists that disrupted what had been previously told in the story.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Heir of Novron?

The most memorable moments are when the heroes are facing off agains the gilarabryn while trying to recover the horn and the final battle duel for control of the human and elven realms

Any additional comments?

I think Heir of Novron is a fitting conclusion to one of the best fantasy trilogies I have read in a long time. Yes, I still think there were too many different characters used for POV. Yes, I don't think that the "twists" were well disguised and were very predictable. But the fact that it is just a good story over comes these faults. This story is very classical for the genre. I think will be liked by anyone who has a taste for epic high fantasy stories that are fun with lots of action and intrigue.

Good but not great.

This is the last of the trilogy. It’s ok. Im not a fan of the fantasy genre. But this came as a recommendation from a friend. I liked the first two books. I’m a “completionist”. Otherwise I would have stopped listening 2 books ago (there are 6 separate stories in the trilogy: 2 Stories in each book. Go figure...) After the first two books it started getting a bit cliche. The main characters do have growth throughout the series. There are some good and unexpected twists. But it’s not as compelling as Patrick Rothfuss’ “King Killer” series which I have really enjoyed. The narrator was very good and had a wide range of voices. But too often it sounded like he would keep the same voices when switching characters in a rapid dialogue exchange. If your a fan of the fantasy genre I think most will like it.

A satisfying end to the Riyeria Chronicles

In these final two books, Michael J. Sullivan wraps up the adventures of Royce and Hadrian (Riyeria) and the arc of the story satisfies the fans: the (surviving) characters remain true to themselves even as they move on with their lives; the mystery driving the series from the beginning is explained (and enough clues are there for even me to figure out most of it ahead of time, but not in such a way that the characters seemed like dunces); and the journey to the end is packed with adventure and humor.

It's really hard to end a series, especially one with the type of characters that the reader can invest herself in and a world where fans can easily imagine further adventures for the beloved cast. Just look at the TV shows Lost or Battlestar Galactica. But the author does a great job of wrapping everything up in a natural way, with a coda that satisfies the fan's desire to know what happens to the characters after the adventures are over.

Again, the narrator was a huge contributor to making this series snappy and enjoyable. He slipped up in the voices once in awhile during extended dialogue, but his reading really brought the colorful world and its distinct characters to life.

An amazing story

Where does Heir of Novron rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The Ryria Revelations series in general is a rather strong series and the final book in the duality audiobook "Heir of Novron" is by far the best. Among movies you can often find depictions based on the excitement level defined by time, usually peeking around the point of no return.

Where some of my other favorite series typically gave higher highs, but also lower lows the final books ride on an overall high level albeit with fewer peaks, but very few low points.

The series is highly rated, and amongst books ive read/heard i would put the final book in my top 10

What was one of the most memorable moments of Heir of Novron?

There wont be any spoilers in this text and i am being deliberately vague

Though the primary plot point throughout the series can be reasoned by most sooner or later in the series, the final book still manages to throw curve balls that not only fit, but are immensely satisfying when discovered. For me personally swinging from suspected guesses to things i newer even considered.

The development and interaction between the characters grow and are also very good.
Myron also deserves his own special mention as his character is fantastic.

Have you listened to any of Tim Gerard Reynolds’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Tim Gerard does an excellent job through the entire series.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

Great ending to the series

What did you like most about Heir of Novron?

This book brought the trilogy to a satisfactory conclusion. Some surprising and some satisfying deaths (!) and a nice twist to the tale towards the end.
The series as a whole is fairly gentle without deep character development or complex motivations, it is nevertheless a pleasant listen which had me finding excuses to keep listening to see what happens next; always a good sign.

Have you listened to any of Tim Gerard Reynolds’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Tim's performance was great as always. A few slip-ups where voices were mixed up for a few words but that reflects how distinct the main characters voices were.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

All the proper reactions to the perils and triumphs of the characters. A smile at the interplay between them.

Light-hearted fun

It's good, fun, light-hearted entertainment.

The narration is fine, though at times some of the characters sound almost a little too jolly for the moment.

It's worth listening to the whole series, as the thread is good and clues are given early on.
