Publisher's Summary

Welcome to Law/School!

Up until this morning, the biggest thing Josh had to worry about was completing Shadow Souls on sadistic difficulty. Oh, and his upcoming exams.

That was before he caught the attention of a planet of intergalactic trial-by-combat lawyers that use giant mechs to fight their legal battles. Now he has bigger things to worry about. Much, much bigger. The only advantage he has is his trusty games controller, but will it be enough to beat a Level 10 Behemoth?

Josh isn't the only one having a rough day. Gargle was your run-of-the-mill, body swapping, ethereal alien courier. Everything was going great, until he was dropped off on Earth and asked to blend in with a crowd of teenagers. Josh only has to save the world, Gargle has to survive puberty.

If you love humour, sci-fi, and gamelit then this is the book for you!

A standalone story in the One Up universe.

Great story with an interesting angle

Couldn't wait to pick this up and listen to on my daily walk. Found myself laughing out loud numerous times. Very loosely related to the first book. Probably better than the first.

Fun and Funny, not really connected to book 1

No need to listen to Book 1 before listening to this one: they are only very loosely connected. Same metaverse, but probably not even the same universe.

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book: I mean, who doesn't like lawyering up through big stompy mechs? It was fun and funny, and it's one of those ones you hate to put down. It's all about a kid who turns galactic law upside down with his trusty AI companion, attractive but naive alien inhabiting a human simulacra, and his trusty game controller. Galactic society is so rules bound that he and his team are able to turn it on its head by skirting the rules in creative ways. Overall, lots of absurd and snarky humor wrapped around a fun story.

I'm really surprised the number of reviews is so low: this book is easily in my top 25% (and, honestly, better than the first book, which I also thoroughly enjoyed but is basically unrelated to this one).

Because of his first two books, I am looking forward to buying anything else from this author when it comes out.

I Love This Book!

This book doesn't continue the story of the first book but it only took a very short while before I fell in love with the characters here and the world creation. The narration is excellent, easy to understand, and absolutely hilarious and touching when called for. This series and the 2 books that are currently in it are among my favorite audiobooks I've ever heard out of the hundreds I've listened to on Audible; they resonate with me so well and the author did an amazing job. I love and highly recommend these audiobooks!

better then the first

this book is better then the first in a few ways to me. book one is untasteful the action was just to quick. it happened then it was done there was only a few spots in the story that i could actully flowly. this book i was in love with i could get behind the characters and keep up with everything. it wasnt thrown together. i feel like that had put enough time to think everything trough even the bad guy im upset that they don't have to third book don't yet on audible so i can listen to it. the thing i loved the most is the mech fighting. really believe me i have not seen anyone else put robots fight each other that old psp game that i used to play all the time. this book is loved and im ready for the 3rd.

Book 1 was good, this was better

I enjoyed the first book in this series enough to buy the second, but only barely.
I am glad I did. Craig really hits his stride here I think. The story was compelling to me and interesting. Yes, a bit predictable -- but not so much that it ruined the story for me.

Overall a fun romp that reminds me of books I enjoyed as a young adult (MANY years ago!)
