When Alex finds out he is Unwanted, he expects to die. That is the way of the people of Quill: Each year all the 13-year-olds are labeled as Wanted, Necessary, or Unwanted. Wanteds get more schooling and train to join the army. Necessaries keep the farms running. Unwanteds are set for elimination. Publisher's Summary
Rich in suspense and brimming with adventure, the New York Times best-selling Underland Chronicles unfold the fate of the Underland and the great warrior, Gregor. Suzanne Collins is also the author of the best-selling Hunger Games trilogy.
Praise for Gregor and the Curse of the Warmbloods:
Kirkus Reviews Editor’s Choice, 2003.
NY Public Library 100 titles for reading and sharing.
“Gregor’s luminous, supremely absorbing quest takes place in a strange underground land of giant cockroaches, rideable bats, and violet-eyed humans.... Creature depictions are soulful and the plot is riveting.... Wonderful.” (Kirkus Reviews)
“Collins does a grand job of world-building, with a fine economy of words.... Unlike Gregor, who cannot wait to leave, readers will likely find [the Underland] to be a fantastically engaging place.” (Publishers Weekly)
“[An] exceptional debut novel, a well-written, fast-moving, action-packed fantasy...sure to be a solid hit with young fantasy fans.” (Booklist)
Book two left off with Gregor reading the Prophecy of Blood: a prophecy that calls for Gregor and Boots to return to the Underland to help ward off a deadly plague. But this time, Gregor's mother refuses to let him return to the Underland...until the rat Ripred assures the family that Gregor and Boots are just needed for a short meeting, which the crawlers will attend only if their "princess" Boots is present. Gregor's mom finally relents, but on the condition that she go with them.
The Underland plague is spreading, and when one of Gregor’s family is stricken, he begins to understand his role in the Prophecy of Blood and must summon all his power to end the biological warfare that threatens the warmblooded creatures of the Underland. Fans of Suzanne Collins’ acclaimed fantasy series will find more suspense and action than ever in this thrilling third saga.
Critic Reviews
"The addition of the mother adds a fresh dynamic to the fast-paced, suspenseful story." (Booklist)

So much (unnecessary) pain!
Would you consider the audio edition of Gregor and the Curse of the Warmbloods to be better than the print version?
I would, but I have been listening to Gregor since the first book, and Paul Boehmer changed some of the minor characters voices, which was a little disappointing, but overall, he has had a very good performance. I wouldn't choose the print version over the audio one.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Gregor and the Curse of the Warmbloods?
When they find the queen in the jungle.
Which scene was your favorite?
That is funny because it is also the most enraging scene. It happens when they found out that they had been in that awful quest for nothing (except for Hazzard).
Another moment I enjoyed was when Gregor told Mrs. Cormacy the truth about his disappearances.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Certainly, but there was so much pain and suffering from the beginning, that sometimes I had to stop listening, put myself together and get it back.
Any additional comments?
I recommend this book, but only if you have read the previous ones.

This book is just as gripping as the other two in the series! The characters are explored in a little more depth and it was nice to get to know Gregor's mum a bit better. It was hard not to listen and I finished it within about a week. Highly recommend!
