For Kale Goodwin it’s love at first sight when he sees Annie working at the county fair. Darkly beautiful, she’s unlike anyone he’s ever met. There’s an electricity to her-something dangerous and magnetic.

Their love is fast and passionate. Kale is quickly swept away.

But when Annie calls on him for help, the innocence of their new love is shattered. Kale is forced to question everything he thought he knew about the woman he fell in love with.

In the days that follow, Kale is plagued by violent nightmares and dark visitors who drift in the shadows.

a psychological thriller that should be a MOVIE!

very low key beginning, weaving info throughout until all the little pieces of info start painting a picture of what you THINK will happen!
my heart was pounding the last 3 hours of the book. seriously it registered on my fitbit lol. no lie!
I have to say I love this family..of all the books in this whole series, I love this family. kale's Little sister Sage is the real VIP.
my stomach is still in knots, I just finished the audio book less than 10 min ago.
FYI, there is a county fair down the street from me today, seriously, NOT even mentioning it to my kids!nope nope nope!!! LOL. no "fun houses" for me!.
this book was 5 star suspense- with or without the spirits!

Good story, lots of twists

Was not in love with the narration. When the male narrator read for female characters, it was a little comical and took me out of the story at times. I found the beginning of the book a little clunky, but then the story started to flow and the writing smoothed out. Not my fave JRE book, but still a good story overall.

Enjoy Troubled Spirits, This One Not So Much

Look I’m not one to talk negative about people’s work. I’ve even liked this authors previous titles, but this one wasn’t for me. Slow burn and predictable all the way till the end. Plus stupid decisions I can’t relate to from the main character. But it’s a personal pet peeve of mine where paranormal or thrilling events happen in people’s dreams. Just not a fan of this one.

AWESOME

By far my favorite book in this series! SO so creepy, had me looking over my shoulder while listening. A refreshing, new story line…this was different than anything I’ve read before. The ending was a great twist. Narration was enjoyable. 5 stars all around.
Now on to the next book….

Another slow burn suspense from 1 of my favorites!

Grave Devotion
A Troubled Spirits Novel
By: J.R. Erickson
Narrated by: A. W. Miller

Overall: 5/5

I listened to Grave Devotion, Book 8 of the Troubled Spirits collection by J.R. Erickson, in about a day and a half of driving my littles around and in the kitchen while cooking. Even though this book is part of a series, it's an entirely standalone book. The story itself was entertaining and spooky at all of the right parts. Ms. Erickson has crafted a unique suspense, a paranormal murder mystery that revolves around a girl and the local traveling carnival that just made a pit stop in Kale's town. The narration was well done, except I felt like Kale's mother was an Irish Yooper living in lower Michigan. That threw me for a loop when listening to her character.

Here's the story in a few words, which don't do justice to the fantastic tale itself: Boy meets cute carnie girl at a traveling carnival. Boy falls fast and then starts to discover that he may not know this girl as well as he thinks. Just give it a listen-you'll enjoy it!

Those are not Michigan accents!

My complaint is the narrator. Only Mom and Dad were given accents from God knows where.

I didn’t like one of the characters from the start. I was right not to trust them! I found myself screaming at another character chapter after chapter for bad decisions.

This was a slow book that lead up to a completely unexpected and intense conclusion. I honestly wasn’t sure how I was feeling about the book until it ended. Overall, I liked it and as usual, need to read more about the actual events that inspired it.

Excellent!

This is such a great read. Full of twists and turns and lots of very creepy paranormal happenings. The story is artfully written and the characters are relatable. I also really enjoyed the audiobook narrator. He did a great job with changing his voice for different characters and his overall style was easy to listen to and engaging. I would definitely recommend this book!

Love this author!!

Love this one, I have it on audible and a paperback copy! These books are a great mix of true crime and the supernatural…the perfect marriage. I was not expecting the twist at the end, even though I thought I had it all figured out! Can’t wait for the next one!!
The only thing I struggled with was the narrator’s accents. I felt like they were a little overdone. Not enough to make me stop listening, though!
