It is very rare for a horse, either wild or domestic, to die of old age. The wild horse slows down and succumbs to predators. The ones we feed, use, and enjoy may encounter problems that dictate their euthanasia. Some may grow old in our care, but eventually, given their nature, will have to be put down.
This book addresses the why's, how's, and emotions of equine euthanasia. Part of the veterinary profession is putting animals down. There are many conditions in horses where this becomes the right decision. This book will help you answer questions about when that time is, and how to prepare for it.

Every single horse owner should read this book.
This short book touched my heart in ways that will take a long time to process. I’ve enjoyed and said goodbye to many horses and with each turn of the page I remembered with clarity the depth of those relationships. One of the very best books I’ve ever read. And as an aside, I could listen to Dr. J read any book.

A must read for every horse owner. So helpful.
I found this book at a time when I need it. I am having my two old horses (29 and 30) euthanized in five days. It is the hardest decision I ever made. There is always that thought, well what if this happens or that happens? Dr. Jefferson’s experiences erased the “what if” and made me realize “it is time”. Every pet owner can learn something from this book. Heartfelt and warm. Well done.
