Meet Roy Ballard, freelance videographer with a knack for catching insurance cheats. He's working a routine case, complete with hours of tedious surveillance, when he sees something that shakes him to the core. There, with the subject, is a little blond girl wearing a pink top and denim shorts - the same outfit worn by Tracy Turner, a six-year-old abducted the day before. When the police are skeptical of Ballard's report - and with his history, who can blame them? - it's the beginning of the most important case of his life.

Unexpectedly great

Insurance fraud photographer Roy Ballard had his young daughter kidnapped when she was with him years ago, so although it is not a part of his business he becomes interested when another young girl is kidnapped. He works on the case despite police telling him to stop. Along the way he convinces waitress Mia Madison to join him in his business. Author Ben Rehder uses a lot of witty dialog in his fast paced novels. Narration is excellent.

Nice start to a series!

Funny, entertaining, & a few unexpected twists. This would be a great series or movie. More from this author, please.

Loved it!

Totally unexpected. The lead character starts out being annoying and ends up appealing. The mystery is good—every time I thought I had the solution, I was misled by red herrings. The narrator is excellent overall, though in dialogue it was sometimes hard to tell which character was speaking. Don’t get this book if you want a lot of action or sex. But if you want a good mystery with good characters, I recommend this one.

Surprisingly good mystery and fun

It doesn't have much depth to it, not something that makes me ponder the mysteries of life or anything, but its fast paced and witty and as an audiobook that I listen to during my commute, it was exactly as needed. I can still concentrate on driving, fill in any context I missed usually by just listening to whats next and most importantly I can wlmost eagerly look forward to what is otherwise a torturous drive.

Easy to listen to during the commute.
