Publisher's summary

Storm Syrell sells antiques in Palm Beach, Florida. An art historian, Storm arranges her life as she does her work - into neat, orderly categories. However, when her grandfather dies under suspicious circumstances, she struggles to uncover clues he left behind in a frayed leather journal.

Leaving behind Palm Beach for the untamed wilds of Cypress, Africa, and beyond, Storm is joined by one Harry Bennett - a scruffy, professional treasure hunter (aka, ex-con) who claims he must be the one to help solve her grandfather's murder. Can Storm trust Harry? Does she have a choice?

Before long the two form an unlikely alliance as they dash across the globe to figure out what Storm's grandfather had been working on before his death...and get tangled up in a quest for secret historical writings that could spark a new crisis in Middle Eastern politics.

Racing from the teeming gold markets of an Arabian souk to the highest ranks of European governments - and even to the depths of the Mediterranean Sea - Storm and Harry set out to find the documents before they fall into the wrong hands. Clearly they're up against some formidable enemies, shady characters who will kill with impunity...and very closely. With seconds to spare, the CIA, FBI, and Interpol become involved in this hot-blooded game of international intrigue, but Storm and Harry may learn the hard way that the only ones they can rely on are themselves.

Always interesting to see how history is incorporated.

The twists and the connections never cease to amaze me as we visit some unique places in the world and learn about little known but important treasures.

Good plot, good reader, disappointing writing

This audiobook disappointed me a bit, because of an annoying technique the author frequently uses. Mr. Bunn writes a scene that attracts one's interest, then skips to the end of the next scene, making one think one has missed a chapter in the download, or somehow accidentally skipped over some narration. Then, Mr. Bunn eventually goes back to fill in the gap in the story, using some character's recollection of the missing details. Many times, while listening to this story, I stopped my iPod and backed it up, to hear what I must have skipped. But, of course I hadn't skipped anything -- Mr. Bunn was just trying to pique the listener's curiosity. I don't appreciate this writing technique, because it causes confusion. The audiobook is saved, however, by Phil Gigante's magnificent voice. Mr. Gigante reads masterfully, imbuing each character with a unique vocal timbre and accent. I like his reading so much, I would consider purchasing an audiobook just because of his narration.

Well-written and very engaging!

Well worth listening to! Davis Bunn's books never disappoint. The narrator did a convincing job of making each character unique- whether male or female.

Treasure hunting & antique dealing -good combo

Likeable characters with unpredicatable behaviors for the most part. Characters were nicely developmented. I enjoyed this-the characters evolved with enough red herrings to make it difficult to determine what would be the best recommendations. I enjoyed the narrator a lot.

An Excellent Mystery. 6 out of 5 Stars!

This mystery was written yrs ago. Yet I find myself going back to it countless times & enjoying it all over. Its obvious the narrator loved it as well. Excellently Written. Excellently Narrated. Davis Bunn adds a wonderful mix of a treasure hunter, female FBI agent, Interpol, etc. I'll let you see what you think. I, for 1, find it a treasure in itself.
