Great for road trip

This story is well-written and well-told. Nothing disgusting in it, yet has international crime and one on one relationships.

exciting

I found the story held my attention and could not wait to get back to it. I just wish I could believe that nothing like this will ever happen. A good mystery andI hope there will be a sequel.

How does He do it?

Bunn wrote a story that so mirrors the COVID19 crisis it shocks. Excellent work. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Outbreak

Mr. Bunn is excellent at descriptions which can be seen in the mind’s eye. Would love to see more books like this. The characters are quite memorable. Some intense moments that had me sitting on the edge of my seat.

Couldn't stop listening to the story!

We really enjoyed "Outbreak."
We would have liked the volume to be louder. It was difficult to follow in the car because of car & outside noises. (Other Audible boo(s have been louder.)

Great book with a lot of intrigue. Masterfully narrated. Highly recommend for anyone new to Davis Bunn.

Good enough

Overall, I liked it well enough but I have some criticisms.

It had a fun pathogen, though I wish they'd spent more time in the hit zone and talked more about the actual plague. It was more an intrigue and conspiracy novel than plague novel.

I consider romance subplots unnecessary at best, and usually a detriment to the story. Definitely the case in this. Time better spent on a different sort of biology, mainly the plague I signed up for, was wasted on two people whining and pineing about Romance. It would have been a better story if the band of problem solvers had been written as staunch friends and brothers and sisters in arms. There was no need to shoehorn it into this. At least they didn't get physical but still. Blech.

And the hitman was just weird. It spent a lot of time on character development for him only to have him do hitman.exe and come to a predictable end. Chehkov's rifle definitely misfired there.

The first third was the great. The last third was like a drunk guy rambling at a bartender 10 minutes before close on a Tuesday night.

Narrator is very good though!

I'm glad it was free. Still, good enough.

Just Fair

I honestly kept waiting for the action to start. If you title your book Outbreak you sort of expect it to be about a pandemic but no, this was more about the discovery of a new virus and an attempt to keep it from being an outbreak. There was a lot of useless back and forth between the main characters that didn’t add to the story or the action at all. I was bored through most of it just trying to hang on after a decent start to the story in the first few chapters. It was a big letdown.

A wasted effort to find no value.

A mix-up of science and adolescent adults. Though I understood the over-explicated science, it did not add sufficient value to overcome a poorly told story filled with ad-nauseam banality. Add to that way too many overused character tropes that burst from nearly every page.

There were moments when the book looked like it 'might' ultimately actually turn into something interesting so I listened off and on. I should have kept it off.
