the story is ok...

definitely a young adult book, but that's ok. basically, it's a good story and kept my interest, though i wasn't compelled to keep listening. that could have been due to the narrator, which i wasn't all that into.
it wasn't too bad to listen to, though i'd probably enjoyed it much more if someone like Michael Kramer had been the narrator. i never like listening to someone who over-pronounces words with t's in them. and i felt he 'read' the book rather than being characters who 'spoke' the words.

It is OK.

I am still struggling through. It is not a bad story, just a so-so story. The narration is horrible and makes it difficult to listen to. All because of one character, Benjen. I do not know why Chris Snelgrove chose the voice he did but it sounded like blackface. I cringed every time I heard the character.

unsure about this one

There was a point where I was about to stop this series and request a refund.

At first I enjoyed the books, part one was great but it went downhill from there. Things seem disjointed and many parts were not explained well enough. Many of the characters actions made no sense and later this was brushed off as "it was mind control" other something.

Last few books have confusing points.

The first few books are good id say, but the last few tend to not explain everything. So you have to do some hard thinking of what was what or just not know what items were. Also the last chapter in the last book was kinda random i think. Is there going to be another book after that or am I just going to have to be confused even more?

not for people over the age of 8...

The story is similar to The wheel of time series, but where The wheel of time is a pefect diamond, Godsland is mearly a ball of dust... I know it might be unfair to compair it with perhaps the greatest fantasy bookseries ever made, but hear me out...

Character presentation is pretty much a one liner for every character.

Character development is similar to finding an answere to a discussion thats not really interesting.

Situations happen semingly for no reason and people do things without the slitest hint of description of why.

World/country/history details are none-existent.

The main character find out that she is something pretty much world breaking with insane powers and mystical abilitys... and her reaction is like "hmmm... oh... okey." while she cries for semingly no reason in other situations...

the narrator does a okey job, with some voice changing... but not well enough to save this book.

So would I recommend this book for a hardcore fantasy lover... no. In fact I would probably not even recommend it to someone who slightly like fantasy... The only people I would recommend this book to are people that enjoy unanswered questions, stale and weak characters and a whole lot of head scrathing...

I was unable to finish

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Where do I start? The narrator was so consumed with proper annunciation, that I was often distracted from the story he was narrating. The story line seemed ok if a little simplistic in book 1, but seemed to really wander in book 2. By book 3, i had given up. the main plot was coherent if dull, but the side plots were confusing and often had very little subtext. It felt like i was listening to an abridged book. I ended up returning the book, as i just couldn't bring myself to finish.

What was most disappointing about Brian Rathbone’s story?

Seemed very disjointed at times

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Worked to hard on getting perfect annunciation

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

disappointment

It's okay. A good value for a credit.

Lots if repetition and disjointed in places. Not a big fan of narrator but overall worth it.

bummer, couldnt finish, and i really tried.

one dimensional guilt ridden characters, every scene described as the most ever observed, belief quotient suspense on max and still just ridiculous. might work for a ten year old. sad waste of a credit.

Quite the let down

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The narrative has no logic to it jumping from one part to the next with little or no explanation as to why the characters made their decisions. If the author were to have sat down and reasoned and planned out the story a little better it could have made this a great listen,

Has Godsland Epic Fantasy Bundle put you off other books in this genre?

Not at all. I love fantasy books, and realise sometimes you'll find one you don't enjoy but the next one could be a thing of wonder.

What three words best describe Chris Snelgrove’s voice?

He tries hard but the voices are lacking distinction from one another. But this may be my bias as I didn't like the story

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The basic plot was imaginative and had some real potential, which was the only thing that kept me listening (I made it to the 5th part) but it was really let down by the dis-organised story telling.

Any additional comments?

I know it seems like a bargain, such a long book for only 1 credit and you may think I'm just being negative, but this is the first time I've left a comment/review and I have over 40 audio books, please don't waste your money.

Only one credit, I see why

Has the writer at any time stopped to think how old his characters are? And, please, show us how great someone is, don't tell us.

Spoilt by the narrator!

I read these books and the stories are excellent, but unfortunately this audio version has been ruined by the narrator.

Mediocre story, not well narrated

I persevered with this to the end, but it's not something I'd recommend. The story had good a and bad bits, some nice surprises but mostly predictable. The narration was poor, very flat and with awkward timing and cadence. I give the narrator 2 stars since he did try to inject a bit of personality into some characters, but the end result was unsatisfying.

WOW - Great value for only one credit!

I hugely enjoyed listening to the adventures of Catrin and her family through all nine books of the Godsland series bundle. There was adventure, heartbreak, loyalty, betrayal, heroism, cowardice, honesty, deception and all the suspense one would expect in a good story. The background of epic fantasy and the emerging civilisation under Vestra's light was fascinating to observe, and just to put icing on the cake ... there were dragons!

want to know what happens but . . .

I must have missed something about the transition of 1 character, if I didn't something doesn't sit right with the story.

ne of the accents used by the narrator is appalling and inconsistent ever. others have got more settled others have evolved and one is horrific.

Great!

It is long but still a great series!
It is worth the $14.95 price.
There might be book ten with new set adventure.

So excruciatingly bad, I can't listen to the rest

normally, no matter how bad a "book" is, I will force myself to finish, just so I know how the story ended. Not this one I'm afraid. What MIGHT have been a good story.. although not sure on that point either, is so thoroughly badly, woodenly and nasally narrated, I just can't listen to one more word. my ears are screaming. So, so bad. 😫😖
