Publisher's summary

Asia Smith walks through life with a silver spoon in her mouth, thanks to her father, who spares no expense when it comes to his baby girl. But when he dies tragically, her extravagant lifestyle is brought down a notch. She struggles to adjust to her new life with Auntie Joy.

Asia thinks that entering high school will help her world return to normal. She’s excited about attending the hypest school in Detroit along with her best friend, Tracey. They’re closer than ever and loving their freshman experience - until they fall for the same boy. Tracey turns her back on Asia, and things get complicated.

Asia puts her new boyfriend before her old friendship. She’s willing to do anything to keep him interested - even things she’s not quite ready to handle. When she ends up pregnant, the boyfriend she thought would be with her forever quickly disappears, and she’s left to deal with the consequences of growing up too fast. Will her life ever get back on track?

Great Cautionary Tale

I wish this could be a required book for young girls.

The only downside was having a white narrator. It's the equivalent of doing BLACKFACE. A white woman saying she's got a ghetto booty and "...so dark, she looks like the sun spit her out."

This pulls the listener out of stor. Additionally, she doesn't know how to say certain words like a Black person would. We don't say "AUNT" like the insect ANT. ...like nails on a chalkboard - very annoying. There are too many of these examples to note.

Typical Teenage Angst

Can anyone say you might as well just watch "Teen Mom" on MTV? I expected it to be a lot longer than the hours. I followed the whole story. I'm not sure I like the way it stereotypes families who find themselves handling unplanned pregnancies with their underage children. But then again it's not like a horrible story at all. It's very ideal. This is they way I imagine solutions happening for young adults who find themselves knocked up at thirteen. What's the best you can do you know?

I liked it

Great story! I know a lot of young girls that need to hear this story. I wish that I would’ve heard it when I was a teen.

Must read for teens

Even though Asias just story turned out better than most, the story was told beautifully. She spoke on how her inner being was telling her no but due to peer pressure she gave in. One mistake or rather bad judgment can change a life. The story gave me hope.

Realistic and a YA must read!

This was such a touching quick story! WOW. I went to a high school that had a daycare inside of it for all the teen moms. Although most teen moms don’t get blessed like Asia did I think this is a good cautionary tale to share with young people and to use as a teachable moment. Excellent narration and story!

Enjoyed

This story took me back to high school. Although getting pregnant in high school was not my experience, I did know a lot of girls who went through this. I was really disappointed with Aunt Joy but Ms. Coleman restored my faith. Think all young ladies coming of age should read these books by Babygirl Daniels. Well written and great natration.

I liked her other book Better

I feel like this story could be told so much better and relatable to younger readers…. The Authors thoughts seem to be all over and always trying to stick to a message….While I know everyone adoption story is different, this is not the normal out come and every 16/17 doesn’t get that lucky…just fare fetched
