Publisher's Summary

From New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Cassandra Clare comes an exciting new short story collection that follows Jem Carstairs as he travels through the many Shadow Markets around the world. Ghosts of the Shadow Market is a Shadowhunters novel.

The Shadow Market is a meeting point for faeries, werewolves, warlocks, and vampires. There, the Downworlders buy and sell magical objects, make dark bargains, and whisper secrets they do not want the Nephilim to know. Through two centuries, however, there has been a frequent visitor to the Shadow Market from the City of Bones, the very heart of the Shadowhunters’ world. As a Silent Brother, Brother Zachariah is a sworn keeper of the laws and lore of the Nephilim. But once he was a Shadowhunter called Jem Carstairs, and his love, then and always, is the warlock Tessa Gray. And Jem is searching through the Shadow Markets, in many different cities over long years, for a relic from his past.

Follow Jem and see, against the backdrop of the Shadow Market’s dark dealings and festival, Anna Lightwood’s doomed romance, Matthew Fairchild’s great sin, and Tessa Gray as she is plunged into a world war. Valentine Morgenstern buys a soul at the Market, and a young Jace Wayland’s soul finds safe harbor. In the Market is hidden a lost heir and a beloved ghost, and no one can save you once you have traded away your heart. Not even Brother Zachariah.

Great wrap up

I really enjoy her entire series. These side stories do such a great job wrapping things up or explaining little side stories. So well written and entertaining to boot.

you MUST read the Infernal devices before this.

I loved it!!!! I r re-read The Infernal Devices right before listening to this one and having Jem and Tessa's history fresh in your mind is AMAZING. This book picked up where all the others left off and connected them all together!

Another Shadowhunter hit!

Cassandra Clare never disappoints! Like all of the books that have come before, this one is packed with all the characters we love and stories that can drive you to both laughter and tears! I can't wait to find out what happens next!

I love my Jem

I loved everything about this book. Loved that we get more of Jem, he was my favorite character from the Infernal Devices and got to see his life as a Silent Brother and after and those he met during that time. The narrators were great, each seem to fit with each story. There were a few stories I didn't care for and a few that I just loved.

Must-Read, Pivotal to Main Storyline

I thought since this was a collection of stories, that they wouldn't be central to the plot, but there's a whole slew of stories featuring characters likes Kit, Ty, Livy, Thul Jace, Alec, Lily and more. Really powerful ending, setting up for The Wicked Powers. Can't wait! Narrators feature star power like Emily Bett Rickards, who played Felicity Smoak on The Arrow.

Fills the holes.

Overall a good book. I enjoyed seeing how Jem was interwoven in so many lives. A good reminder that we all touch each other one way or another.

Sadly this was not the book I was hoping for.

This book is comprised of many short stories- or after thoughts that needed adding too. It’s been a while since I listened to the series so I didn’t easily make the connection as which story or even was being added to. Now as I am writing this review, I am realizing how the many different series are connected and closes the circle bringing all the books Cassandra has written together. This revelation has brought understanding. Thank you, Cassandra Clare.

Lots of "said"s.

The only downfall is that one or two of the stories were repetitive with the "he said". More colorful vocabulary would have been more enjoyable like "he responded, he joked" or something. This was only an issue for maybe one or two stories. Other than that, loving the universe Cassandra Claire has created.
