Publisher's Summary

The explosive memoir of an FBI field operative who has worked more undercover cases than anyone in history

Within FBI field operative circles, groups of people known as “Special” by their titles alone, Michael R. McGowan is an outlier. Ten percent of FBI Special Agents are trained and certified to work undercover. A quarter of those agents have worked more than one undercover assignment in their careers. And of those, less than 10 percent of them have been involved in more than five undercover cases. Over the course of his career, McGowan has worked more than 50 undercover cases.

In this extraordinary and unprecedented book, McGowan will take listeners through some of his biggest cases, from international drug busts to the Russian and Italian mobs to biker gangs and contract killers to corrupt unions and SWAT work. Ghost is an unparalleled view into how the FBI, through the courage of its undercover Special Agents, nails the bad guys. McGowan infiltrates groups at home and abroad, assembles teams to create the myths he lives, concocts fake businesses, coordinates the busts, and helps carry out the arrests. Along the way, we meet his partners and colleagues at the FBI, who pull together for everything from bank jobs to the Boston Marathon bombing case, mafia dons, and, perhaps, most significantly, El Chapo himself and his Sinaloa Cartel.

Ghost is the ultimate insider's account of one of the most iconic institutions of American government, and a testament to the incredible work of the FBI.

Interesting story, but narration eh

Good book if your interested in FBI undercover work, or investigations in general. The detail about the cases is very fascinating. Some of the writing could have been better but it wasn’t bad. You just hear “you can’t make this shit up” a few times to many. But the narration was hard for me to get past at times. I think if I was reading the book as opposed to listening to it I wouldn’t have imagined the voice to be the way it was narrated. I almost didn’t buy it because of the narration on the sample. But I’m glad I did. Book was interesting overall and it’s a quick listen.

Not a fan of the style

The agent did some remarkable things. Too much "puffing out his chest" in the telling of the story for my taste.

Pretty darn good

I really liked this insight into the FBI and the mix of truth about how it all works with the action in the stories

Good story, great performance

Mike Dawson was amazing, I would listen to almost that he reads.

The story was good and kept my attention. The author had a very interesting life and did a lot of good but has a very high opinion of himself which detracted a bit from the book.

this book was good show true side of being an agent for being a hero on one day and crap on the next. this book also shows the difference between policing 30 years ago and today and some of the differences. This guy's got some really cool experiences and stories.

Inside scoop

My old man worked with him in Philadelphia. We listened to Mr. McGowns book, very cool to hear the inside scoop from someone who worked along side McGown.

Great book

Great book great story. Television and video games have ruined my attention span and imagination so I can’t do fiction anymore. This genre (and this book more specifically) of non-fiction fits right into my overstimulated brain. The story is gripping, the action is intense and the best part is that it is real.

Also, the narrator is something from folklore. His voice is the perfect match of gravely manhood mixed with soothing class. Like a saddle in a cigarette store he ties together the sweet and savory with hints of cardamom and black currant.

Highly recommend. -Jake The Steak

Great book! Great narration by Mike Dawson.

Unbelievable stories brought to life by Mike Dawson‘s narration. One of those audiobooks that you honestly don’t want to turn off and listen to every free moment I had. Really felt like I was there as the story was told.
