Publisher's Summary

William Ury, co-author of the classic best seller on negotiation Getting to Yes, has taught tens of thousands of people from all walks of life - managers, salespeople, students, parents, lawyers, and diplomats - how to become better negotiators. Over the years, Ury has discovered that the greatest obstacle to successful agreements and satisfying relationships is not the other side, as difficult as they can be. The biggest obstacle is actually ourselves - our natural tendency to react in ways that do not serve our true interests.

But this obstacle can also become our biggest opportunity, Ury argues. If we learn to understand and influence ourselves first, we lay the groundwork for understanding and influencing others. In this indispensable prequel to Getting to Yes, Ury draws deeply on his personal and professional experience negotiating conflicts around the world to present a practical method to help you get to yes with yourself first, dramatically improving your ability to get to yes with others.

Extraordinarily useful and elegantly simple, Getting to Yes with Yourself is an essential guide to achieving the inner satisfaction that will, in turn, make your life better, your relationships healthier, your family happier, your work more productive, and the world around you more peaceful.

WIN,WIN,WIN!

"When the student is ready, the teacher will appear." I've been waiting for this book for a long time. Profound. Practical and compassionate.

This book filled in so many gaps for me that it is hard to write a review without telling my life story, and how this information, had I had it to hand, could have abbreviated much gnashing of teeth and wasted years. I recommend it. Wholeheartedly.

So true

A necessary corrective in the series. The first step in conflict resolution cum management is dealing with ourselves so we have that much more awareness of the needs of others.

Tools to no longer my worst enemy!

The author gives many examples of how becoming my own best friend is the best and only way to find/follow my purpose and give to others. It's the old airplane instructions of "put your own oxygen mask on first before you go to help another".
If you are wallowing in self pity/shame and/or resistant to see your part in your life issues (all my fault vs nothing is my fault)- listen to this book and learn that those feelings and paradigms are ineffective at bringing us to what we truly want- safety and connection.

Spiritual and Practical in Wonderful Ways

What did you love best about Getting to Yes with Yourself?

I loved the way in which Ury provides practical scaffolding to achieve inner peace and equilibrium. In a very clear logical but poignant and poetic way, he provides a wonderful framework for silencing that inner saboteur to get the most out of ones life.

Topical at best, but did offer a few useful tips

I found myself wishing the narrator had more vim and vigor. In my experience, most audiobooks have several ah-hah moments. This one did not.

Powerful and transforming

With a voice that is peaceful and soothing Ury lays out the roadmap for inner peace.
In six simple yet profound steps he offers the chance of a paradigm shift in our negotiations with ourselves.
It almost feels like once you are aware of your reactivity and your need to go to the balcony you can not unsee that awareness and right there you have already transformed.
Loved the real life examples which were quite effective and well placed.
Would love to have a workbook!!
With sincere gratitude -
A must read 👍👍

Amazing

I listen to this book whenever I'm struggling to find peace in my life. It's truly transformative. Uri can sound monotone to some but to me he sounds like an old friend with kind words. It's my favorite of his work. I hope to meet him one day after listening to this book!

Important book

This is a book that I highly recommend. Some great stories an many ideas worth contemplating over. The thing is that after you read it, you can start by saying Yes to Yourself. Love and compassion.

A life changer!

Url breaks down the seemingly impossible task of truly knowing and observing one's self into 6 easily digestible steps. I was engaged in a difficult negotiation just hours after completing this book, and the result was completely different than any other conversation that I had with the other party. Really accepting the emotions that prevent us from successful negotiation is key to working through them to be present in the moment and get what is is we really want from ourselves and others. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who needs to overcome regrets of the past, and anxiety over the future to produce results in the present!
